Some of us have no choice but to use nappies. I use the biggest size tampons and the biggest towels and still have to rush to the loo very frequently to avoid 'overflow'. I've never been light enough to use a tampon alone, would have very embarrasing problem if I tried . Think yourself lucky!

Wow.. I thought my periods were heavy sometimes.. I never realised..

The vapour rub story has made me get goose pimples

I remember that when i was at school Always did a starter pack which had a few samples that they gave to schools, maybe a quick email would bag you one for your DD, there was also a handy book etc in there.

Talking of holders, i used to use my (big blue) tampon holder to hide my fags in (only place i was guaranteed my dad wouldnt check lol)

I wanted periods for a very long time but didnt actually start until i was nearly 16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find tampons tend to give me a bad back (lower back). So I only use them if my period co-incides with me having to take DD swimming - and I prefer the Tampax ones with the plastic applicator as opposed to the cardboard ones (not very enviro friendly but hey ho).

I'm not keen on Always (unless they've changed recently) - I don't find the material they're made of very comfortable, and I also find the ones with wings a bit scratchy.

I hope things have changed a bit from when I was in school - we didn't have sanitary bins in the cubicles, we had a great big noisy incinerator on the wall in the main part of the toilets which was highly shameful to have to use!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I always used towels up until last month when my mate suggested using Tampons.

I'll never go back to towels again.

    From the mooncup website:

"Yes young girls are physically able to use the Mooncup. It is possible to use the Mooncup from the very first period as our bodies are designed to give birth to full size babies at this time. The more confident that your daughter is about her body the easier it will be for her. As with tampons, it will require practice at first. She may like to use a water based lubricant to make insertion easier to begin with. I hope that this helps."

My mother used to buy me towels called Vespre when I first started - they smelled like really strong airfreshener and I hated them with a vengeance. Eventually after nicking hers for a while I plucked up the courage to ask for tampax and never looked back. I can still imagine the smell of Vespre.

I bought a frew packs of Always to put in the cupboard for my DD, so they're there when she gets round to needing them. They seem to come in different sizes now, though!

I hope schools have changed too. If you needed an ST when I was in school you had to go to the Geography teacher who went into her cupboard and handed you in front of the class a large towel, complete with loops and two safety pins:eek: .

I remember when we were having our girls only giving birth film that we asked the teacher there if the school could install machines that dispensed modern towels & tampons. She thought this was a good idea and said she would ask the head. Him being a man obviously said no as when I left school the only supplies still available were looped towels.

I had been lucky in that when I joined the school a locker was available (which I kept for 5 years) so I had a personal supply. Made me popular not only with my friends but my older sister's friends.

We got them from school too. Still do. Our receptionist had a huge supply( 3 drawers full of every shape and size possible) too which was handy.xx

Well i thought i knew all about sannys but came upon this thread to decide what to get for my daughter and discovered mooncup! I'd never even heard of it and was just wondering if anyone on here had good things to say about it??

I think towels would be a good start and probably wouldnt recommend my daughter starting out using mooncup, but i'm just wondering if they are worth a go :)

I must admit that i hated using towels and as soon as i overcame my severe embarrassment, i went straight to tampax/lillets and then on to sainsburys own which suits me as my flow got really lighter once i changed to the pill.

My daughter is painfully shy :o and gets embarassed about these things so i'm dreading the sit down talk with her, but i know she knows about it cos she's had the talk at school. She starts secondary school in september so thanks to the advice on here, i'll start to get a little kit together.
