First period - recommend a towel?

Recently had 'the chat' with my youngest about starting her periods. She took it surprisingly well, considering I'd just told her she will bleed every month, and will probably be grumpy as hell and have stomach cramps every month for most of her life. :rotfl:

(No I didn't put it quite like that. :D )

Anyway, I want to put together a small 'kit' that she can carry with her in a secret pocket in her schoolbag so that she wont panic if she starts at school.

So, what's small, discreet and easy to use in the world of ST these days? There are so many on the market, I have no idea which would be best to start her off with.

Be glad of suggestions?

Well you could always do what my Mum did...

When I got my first period I went into Mum to tell her, and to find out what happened next. Of course, being a youngster going through this big change and 'becoming a woman', I was obviously nervous. Mum told me to go to my room and she'd be in in a bit to talk me through it.

So I'm sat on my bed and in she comes, throw a pack of sanitary towels on the bed and says 'Right...' and snaps on a latex glove, 'gynae examination style'!

I nearly fainted. I looked at her in a horrified manner until she burst out laughing and told me she was joking. She then proceeded to tell me what really happens

Thanks Mum, for treating me in such a sensitive manner when I was feeling vulnerable  :rotfl:

*Just in case anybody thinks this was really horrible, I did think it was funny too and am in no way traumatised. *Twitch* :D

Theres loads on the market and tbh what i do is just go in to boots, see whats on offer and then have a squidge of them through the packet to see. As some are in the packet full length, some folded 3 times etc.

I use always out of habit, but i do shop about a fair bit when they are on offer and stock up well. Im a bit of a tampon & S.T hoarded. Keep getting free panty liners out of the boots card machine, about 11 boxes to date and i dont use them but cant part with them... 'just in case'
  • something with wings, to help it stay in place, i just use whats on offer when i go shopping

  • of course it depends on what her flow will be like...but when i started(ohhh 17 years ago eeekkk) Bodyform were the best ones as they were small and discreet.

but as i've got older and had kids i use Always, extra long! which are good as you don't get any 'accidents' .

hope this helps a bit my daughter is only 4 but already i'm worried about having 'the talk' lol:rolleyes:
Hoping to of finally learned my lesson...slowly but surely

    Hi there

My daughter recently 'started'. After quick trip to Mr T for supplies got an assortment and the winner is...................... Always silk regular which look like a tissue folded in half to me but she is happy with them. They don't have 'wings' and are press on and she has a pocket in her school bag with a supply.

One word of warning - Apparantly the little fancy tins on the market are a 'no, no' and a complete embarassment particularly in school circles where if seen are a source of ridicule, heaven knows why!!

I hope this helps a bit and your daughter has a long and happy adventure into womanhood!
