My auntie recently told me how when she was a young teen her dad looked at her and asked if she was having her period. She was horrified and asked how he knew. "ahh, it's just a look you women get in your eyes" he replied. She believed him and only years later realised that he must have just seen 'stuff' lying around. Grandad was a scary man...

Some are different to others, so try a few and ask her what she prefers. Definitely wings.

Bodyform used to creak when you moved like a nappy but recently have been much better. I tend to go for those or Always.

Find some really cheap ones still have an embarrassing "creak" factor!!

When I was at school, (only 10 years ago but teaching is makign me feel OLD!) We were advised to put these in a pencil case (so if it fell out, it didn't matter): a couple of 'normal' sanitry towels, a small pack of loo wipes, some Ibuprofen (in case of bad cramps), a spare pair of knickers and a choccie bar to make us feel better!

I used to have a zipped purse that I kept them in ;)

Now I have a bodyform tin and being over 20 don't really care if it's uncool :p

I was a late starter (14 was late at my school!) and I used to write off to Dr Whites etc begging to know when I'd start... and they'd send me freebies back :D At one point I had a drawer full ;-)
Also got freebies from the school nurse AKA Tampax lady, and lillets used to send out trial boxes of the minis.
    My TV is broken!

My periods were quite heavy when I started. I like the Always long ones with wings (in a purple pack i think) What might be good is to get a selection for her to try when the time is right. Then she can tell you what she likes and what she doesn't.
Don't buy though huge padded ones though. She will be mortified if she thinks she has to wear those.
Also, have you seen to new ones that comes with wipes inside the individual packet, she might like those.

Gosh, I remember starting and mum getting me great big fat bulky ones. She woudln't let me try tampons.

I think if I was to go through it all again, I would prefer the ones that are folded up into 3 in a little silk packet that can be stored in a school bag discreetly.

However, I don't know owt about makes as I have been on pills, injections since I was 18 which got rid of the need for any kind of thing like this altogether. Then when I stopped contraception (to get pregnant), I had two periods and remembered what a pain in the bum they are!

If the sprog I'm carrying is a girl (find out tomorrow :T ), think I would recommend when she got to a certain age (16/18 I guess), to cut them out altogether like I did.

Well before I got my mooncup I used Always, because I found the own-brand ones too uncomfortable. Right at the beginning, when I was 14, my mum bought me the "bunny rabbit" ones, which were huuuuuuuuge.

Maybe get a selection of towels and tampons and let her decide which ones she wants? What do you use yourself?

Lil-lets. Hence the ignorance of today's towels. :D

I have no idea why I feel like this.....but I wouldn't be keen on her trying tampons whilst she's still young. (I'm her Mother...I reserve the right to be irrational if need be.)

I was in Tesco this afternoon and saw the tins. Whoooo, got a nice pink one with a flower on it.

No idea if the towel is any good or not, but I thought the tin looked jazzy.:rotfl:

My mum suggested I try tampons when I was about 14. The whole idea freaked me out , let alone actually trying those cardboard tube things - still won't use them.

Wasn't till I was 20+ I found out my older sister didn't like them either (but younger sis did). So they're not for everyone.
