I was interested in signing up with tiscali for their cheap deal, but when I tried to do it, at the very end of the process, they said that as they did not have LLU on my exchange they were going to have to charge for line rental at another £7:50 per month (so I went elsewhwere).
Now, it turns out they only have LLU on 898 exchanges (out of the total of 5592 exchanges). So people really need to check first.
This also applies to TalkTalk. I have 3 phone calls from TT over a period of 1½weeks offering a full package for £17.49. When I tried to sign up I was told that it would cost me an extra £15.00 a month as there was not a facility at my exchange for broadband. Why don't these sales reps check the phone number they are calling first to ensure that the package is going to be available?? For the time being then I am stuck with BT, but I want to get the monthly cost down considerably.0 -

I've currently got my BT costs down to £9.25/month line rental and £7.39/month BT Together Option1 broadband. A total of £16.64 - which I'm very happy with.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Because they hope you'll sign up and, when the extra cost is notified, shrug your shoulders and accept?

Heinz, may I ask, how have you got your line rental down to £9.25?
My line rental only with BT is £11.25 for DD, paperless billing!
I also have Virgin on ASDL for £9.99 with CPS inclusive evening and weekend calls.
Is the, "£7.39/month BT Together Option1 broadband" an ongoing offer, or is it the one requiring a mobile contract with them?
I am looking at the Tiscali phone/BB via the link you provided above #272, and was wondering, are Tiscali still bad or have they improved?
I have just spoken to them to clarify if they allow override numbers if you take line rental from them, and have been assured that I can use them, although I cannot find any reference on their site too this effect.
ThanksDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Line rental is a £2 discount (£24 appeared on my latest bill).
£7.39 for BB is the price they (eventually) offered when I phoned and agreed to renewing for a further 12 months.
I haven't had a mobile contract (I was with Cellnet - remember them?) since 1994 - when I had one of THESE.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. So they just gave you £24.? That was jolly decent of them, not like BT, was it a refund? If not how would one get it?
So if I phoned and asked for a price for BB, do you think they may give me a reasonable offer?
Is there a relevant number to call?

The £2 per month line rental discount came early on in the conversation and then a reduction to £12.99/month for the BB.
"Thanks for the line rental discount but I'll have to give the broadband renewal some thought" was my response - letting her know I hadn't yet been hooked - and the lady put me on hold so she could "talk to her manager" (yeah, right).
Anyway, back she came a couple of minutes later with the £7.39 broadband price if I was willing to agree to a new 12 month contract - to which I responded, "Is that in addition to the £2/month line rental discount?" (just in case she'd forgotten that was the first offer she made). It was.
When my bill arrived, it was the usual convoluted BT version but I noted:
$2 line rental offer -24.000
So it appears that £2/month is paid in a lump sum in advance!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Thanks, might give them a ring and see if they have any offers.
Have just spoken to them, and the only offer I got was they would reduce the line rental by £2. but only if I took out a broadband at £15.65 per month for 12 months, which would total £24.90 per month, £3.66 more than my total now.
So I may go the Tiscali route if they get back to me as they promised with confirmation that override codes will be allowedDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
