Yes, nothing if you agree to an 18 month contract and to make 10 chargeable OR inclusive calls each month for the 18 month period.

Phone 0800 800 150 and ask for the Customer Options Team. Most of them know about the free installation offer.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

We've been with Virgin (previously Diamond Cable & NTL) The Post Office's basic home phone at £11.75 per month would more than replace the Virgin landline package,

So I could cut the monthly internet and phone bill by £13 to £19 per month or by £21 per month to £11.75 if we only use 10GB on bandwidth..

Post Office Homephone can connect a line direct.

"Install or activate a new line – depending on your situation, we may have to install a new phone line or activate an old one. The standard cost for a new line is £107.66, subject to survey. But don’t worry – if there’s an old line that’s still active, you might not have to pay"

I think I saw that but thanks for reminding me. I should give them a bell and see if the "survey" is free. If they can tell me if I will pay an installation fee before I make a commitment, that would be great.

I don't want to BT to install the line as I don't want to be tied into a 18 month package that isn't as competitive as the Post Office's

But I'd put money on it initially being £107.66 cheaper!

can someone clear this up for me?
in the post office deal terms it says
What does 'connection charge' mean in practice?

A call connection fee of 8p per call will be applied to all chargeable calls excluding those with a fixed fee element or those which are inclusive or free.

does it mean for every call you make 'not free calls' no matter how long, you get charged 8p along with the call cost on top? which is 4.50p per minute .

    thankyou

Yes - all calls providers charge a connection charge or set-up fee on non-inclusive calls.

BT's is currently 8p (going up to 9.05p on 1st October and, when VAT goes up to 17½% again, that'll be 9¼p), Virgin's is 10p IIRC.

The inclusive calls aspect is impressive (nobody else offers inclusive calls to mobiles - even if it is only at weekends).

I am thinking of transferring from BT to Primus Home Saver as I am a very low phone user (outgoing calls are on mobile free minutes) and the £9.50 per month is more attractive than the BT rate.

However, I am worried about how good Primus are - has anyone got any feedback?

How much notice do I need to give BT to transfer out of their service?
