If you want a recommendation - try 02 for Broadband. We have never had a problem since moving from Primus a year ago. We get 6.8 Kbps of the 8 Kpbs specified, which is excellent and it only costs £7.50 per month if you have 02 mobile. (you have to top up by £10 every 3 months). At least this should sort out your BB and all service calls to 02 are freephone.

Thank you very much - i will get one today !!!! x
That one (currently - with 18 hours to go - @ £9.51 + £2.50 delivery) is a little costly. It might be worth saving a search on eBay and waiting for others to come up (I paid less than £5, delivered, for mine a couple of years ago).

OTOH, if the terrible teens need taming ..............

P.S. When you get it fitted, don't forget to hide the keys, change the PIN from the default and keep the new PIN from them!

Just for your information, there are no others available on EBay at present and looking at 5 suppliers on Google, including Amazon, all say Out of Stock or No Longer Available. So there may be a long wait !!

I'm about to relocate. The present occupant of the house is transferring her number to her new address (she's with BT)so I'll need a new number. I want to get my phone and broadband up and running asap. Talktalk quoted me a 2-3 week turnaround time and the girl at BT was unable to answer my queries and ended up putting the phone down on me!
Talktalk and Tiscali's setup charges are mad - £30 PLUS £99 to reconnect the line. I mean, could BT be my best option after all - they quoted 2 days!
Has anyone been in a similar situation recently....and if so, what is the cheapest way of doing it??
All offers of help gratefully received.

Hi I make almost no phone calls but like to have a landline for emergencies or if my parents or sister need to call me for some reason, now that BT are killing the lightuser tarriff can anyone suggest another good low usage or cheap tarriff with anyone for someone like me who really only wants a phone as a back-up system. Sadly I cannot get mobile signal within my flat & its not just me no-one who lives here can otherwise obviously i'd go with a mobile for ease of use & cheapness if pay-as-u-go.

It's very unlikely you will not be able to get a cellphone signal in your flat from one of the 5 (separate) main mobile networks.

If you're sure one doesn't work, try each of the others in turn.

Hi all. Seeking a little advice here (or maybe clarification )

I was just reading the weekly email and saw the Primus Home Saver offer.

I'm with BT on the formerly called Option 1 tariff and rarely use my landline as I have a mobile with inclusive minutes which is rarely used to the maximum also. Primus is my override provider with their penny 2 tariff (signed up a year ago, maybe more I think). I'm also signed up with 18185 and 1899 mainly for infrequent calls to Jamaica and USA.

Generally speaking I don't make as many calls as I used to and I use my mobile 99% of the time.

Is it worth switching to the Home Saver offer for 12 months?

No, stay as you are. Penny Mobile 2 is Primus's old Primus Saver tariff with 20p capped calls to mobiles added.

If you managed (like me) to get onto Primus's Penny Mobile 2 tariff, you're getting free evening and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to 90 minutes each and can make calls of up to 20 minutes each to all UK mobiles for a flat-rate 20p.

You may not need/use either at the moment because of your mobile contract's inclusive calls but, IMHO, Penny Mobile 2 is the best CPS package available (demonstrated by the fact that it's very difficult, if not impossible, to get onto now).

BT now offer in-plan inclusive 0845/0870 calls but I don't see that as a big winner for many.

You're making sensible use of override providers too - best of all worlds!

The offer Martin details in the 5 August email requires line rental to be handed over too. That hands Primus the choice of whether to bar* access to the likes of 1899 and 18185. Additionally, it means you will no longer be able to use the 1280 prefix to force individual calls onto BT whenever you want (e.g. to ensure 0844 calls are carried at BT's rates rather than an inflated rates Primus may later decide upon [the excessive charges Virgin applies for such calls has already set a worrying precedent]).

Yes, there is a £1.75/month saving on the monthly line rental but, IMHO, that does not exceed the other disadvantages (personally, the 20p capped rate for calls to mobiles is a real boon).

    * Primus has promised Martin that it won't do so for at least a year but, already, have stated the exact opposite to a potential customer (see post #235 below).
