Just renewed my contract with aol.

No high speed in my postcode yet, so I stuck with them for another 12 months.

Get this; Unlimited calls 24/7 Unlimited broadband 5-8mb, Line rental and international calls to some destinations.

    £6.20 a month for 12 months....:D:D:D

As someone living in an area with a very limited LLU presence (just TalkTalk in fact) I'm tempted to switch my broadband to John Lewis - not trusting TalkTalk at all for reliability or anything else.

That would mean, though, switching the phone service from BT, which I'm pretty happy with. I get free calls evenings and weekends for £11.75pm with Line Rental Saver, which isn't a bad deal. I can - importantly - use 18185 as an override for the 5p unlimited calls.

Are there any John Lewis Phone users with any comments on the service they get? Is 18185 etc use possible? Any downside on using BT?

I completely forgot to renew my Line Rental Saver which was supposedly ending on 17-07-2013. As it's now 22nd July will they charge me a full months rental if I renew now. It's no big deal if they do though I'm guessing they won't renew it till next month if I reorder the Line Rental Saver now, so most like will, I would just like this confirmed if possible.

    Thanks.

Question: Why don't you ask them straight away ?

Just had a letter today to say that the Post Office Home Phone is ceasing its monthly budget payment scheme and that in future they will claim the whole bill as a direct debit every quarter. They say this is to bring it in line with other providers!
    Not impressed!
  • I need to call Sky this week to renew my Line rental saver. I believe it is still £9.95 (equiv) per month.

Have any customers got a further discount on top of that by saying they're leaving etc?

I got 50% off my Sky Broadband a few weeks ago just by asking but is there much scope on the Line rental?
  • As the best deals seem to be for "new" customers, is there anything to stop us from "terminating" our current deal which is in my wife's name (at end of term) and starting a new deal in my name with the same provider? And then repeating the process at the next end-of-term?
It's not fraud or anything daft like that is it?

You might get away with it once (if you also changed the bank account the DD is taken from) but more than that is unlikely.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Just after a bit of advice as I'm looking at other phone/broadband options for the outlaws... (I should add now that due to my employee perks I get all my telephony/BB for free - just pay line rental so shopping around for this is new territory! :D lol)

They've been with BT for X years and seem to be paying a fortune for what is essentially only 'ok' BB (7-8 Mbps). I was convinced I could get them a better offer (their renewal is LSR plus £16ish per month I think)

I've done a search on samknows and been informed that the exchange offers no LLU whatsoever! From here I found out that my suppliers are limited pretty much to BT, Plusnet and Eclipse.

Having clicked on the link to Plusnet their prices looked a lot better with a great package £7.99 (anytime calls) a month plus £14.50 line rental... with £38 cashback from Quidco... however when I start to put together the order the prices shoot up with no explanation??? Does Plusnet have 2 pricing options LLU & non-LLU??? It's beginning to seem like I'm totally wasting my time with this and the outlaws are destined to be ripped off forever!
