  • Hi. I'm on Orange for my personal usage and O2 for my business usage. I have an Orange Motorola Pebl U6 and they are refusing to unlock it for me although i've had it on a 12month contract and 12months on P&G putting at least £10 on a month.

Is there any way I can get them to give me the unlock code for free?

    Please help me!!!

They will normally provide the code for £20, never free!

    1. do i then just phone orange and set up the bb and livebox?
    2. im currently on cable.. how do i check if orange do broadband in my area?. or do i need to first connect to BT?
    3. does it have to be an 18month contract?

Yes, once you've sorted your phone contract you can call orange on 0800 079 0169 or 150 from your mobile.
    2. im currently on cable.. how do i check if orange do broadband in my area?. or do i need to first connect to BT?
Orange only do broadband though phone lines so you will need a BT line to your house - you can check your phone line by entering the phone number here http://freebb.orange.co.uk/offerinfo/cli_check.cfm?WT.bbuser=new&bbProduct=starter
    3. does it have to be an 18month contract?
Yes, well, 18 or 24 months
    4. what other problems do you think i might encounter?
I dont know about problems but it's worth noting that your phone contract (be it 18 or 24 months) will restart at the point you take broadband with them. Also you need to be on a £30 or more plan. Oh yes, and the broadband is technically only for your house i.e. the address that your bank statements go to, so no putting it in a student/parent/son etc house.

Cant think of anything else off the top of my head - are you going to go for the free broadband, or the £5 a month one?

Today, my son who will be moving away next week, took out an 18month contract phone with orange and got the free magic number. He was of the opinion that I am with orange, but am not. However, I'm happy to get a PAYG mobile for my wife so that he can phone her free & frequently & unrestricted.

I read somewhere that these PAYG phones can be bought quite cheaply (under £20), but as yet I haven't been able to find one. Can anyone point us in the right direction please.

thanks for the swift response :)
the £5 per month one.. the usage limit of 2gb for the free one is too mean for my liking. some people on here have mentioned getting orange broadband on 12month contracts.. hmmm probably they are lying?..

im just weighing up the cost options... now im thinking it would be cheaper to go for the 12month free deals on 12 month contracts and use a stand alone broadband provider...

    Samsung C140 from orange direct:
    http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handset/samsung_c140/detail/pay_as_you_go

    Multiple Phones from Carphone Warehouse:
    http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-as-you-go/all/?RECORDS_PP=10&SORT=PRICE

For the carphone warehouse link make sure that the phone is on orange - you can filter the results to only include orange but then you cant order by price - or at least i cant.

I'd look in some of the larger super markets as well

Perhaps they managed to talk orange in to it but the website defiantly says it has to be (at least) 18 month contract - though the broadband itself is only on a 12 month contract, maybe that's what they were talking about?

    Sorry - let me clarify.
You must get an orange mobile contract, at least £30 a month, for at least 18 months
You can then get orange broadband for free or £5 a month - this is on a 12 month contract

Presumably if your son no longer wants this contract you also have the option to cancel since it was only taken out today and you are still in your cooling off period? Or does that only apply to distance selling. Some [swift] research may be in order
