Worded slightly badly, I accept. How about: Capita indiscriminantly target people not on their database as current licenceholders and presume they're guilty. They go in all guns blazing which frightens some people into paying up when they don't need to. It's not even just vulnerable people, anyone can get spooked by threats of court action or being interviewed, if they don't know the rules and understand the limits of Capita's powers.

Saying "i'm sure there are more things in todays society to be afraid of than gettin a letter" is incredibly naive and somewhat patronising IMO.

I'd rank them alongside the actions of dodgy car parking firms who threaten people with powers they don't have in the hope they'll make a profit out of the people they get to pay.

ok i do not know of any person who owns a TV other than to receive a tv signal thus requiring them to purchase a licence.

and can i point out that tv licencing can get a search warrant if they believe someone is using a tv without a licence.

Bella I think you are getting out of yr depth here, not many search warrants are ever granted!

Bella, can you tell me why TVL don't use their detection equipment and rather like to (1) send MONTHLY letters to people and (2) hire lots of people to knock on people's doors?

At the end of the day....if you have a tv that recieves tv channels...wether they are english or foreign, you have to have a licence....wether you like it or not!!! its the law...not some rule made up by capita or tv licensing....its agains the law not to have one!!
And, those who may have not been visited by an enforcement officer (yet) dusnt mean you never will!!
You can say the letters are worded harsh or threatening....but its only so people will realise the seriousness of what they're doing - BREAKING THE LAW!
And...if you say you've no TV....then you won't mind letting the officers in to confirm this....then there'll be no more harrassment!! simple!!
I, aswell as bella 2121 have worked for tvl.....and have been abused on the phones by people who only ring for a moan....get over it!!
If u dont wanna pay for a licence, then dont....but you will eventually get visited......and may go to court.....and believe me there are thousands and thousands of people that DO go to court each week and DO get fined....!!
Oh, and neil.....search warrants do get granted quite often.....and if they end up in court....the people are fined alot more money!!!!!

can you tell us what job you actually did bella, because a lot of what you say :rolleyes: is not true!
