i dont understand why you are getting so irrate about this, maybe is people like you where not so defensive and obstructive then more money could go into programme making and less money into enforcement.
in an idealistic world everyone would be honest but they are not and you dont need to give me the ins and out of TV licencing laws i used to work there as i have already stated.
ok i do not know of any person who owns a TV other than to receive a tv signal thus requiring them to purchase a licence.
and can i point out that tv licencing can get a search warrant if they believe someone is using a tv without a licence.***** on the road to debt freedom *****

Hmm, you seem to have a mindset like TVL. i.e.:
1. everyone must have a TV.
2. everyone must use the TV to watch broadcast.
3. everyone without a licence must be hiding something.
4. if someone rings to say they don't do either 1 or 2, they must be lying so we have to check they are telling the truth.
5. aftering checking, who knows if they watch again after we left? WE MUST CHECK AGAIN!0 -

Really? I would've thought Crapita were on a fixed-price contract to administer the service and any profits would go into their pockets, not back to the BBC?
I certainly have a problem with a private enterprise thinking they're a police force.0 -
whatever like i have said i am only offering the otherside as the reason why things happen and the processes so people understand a little more but i wont bother, hope you all have a very exciting day in the world where everyone is perfect and honest, i think some people need a reality check!!!!***** on the road to debt freedom *****

I do have a sense of reality - Capita is a profit-chasing organisation masquerading as a public agency, and their processes are all geared around maximising profit whilst playing on the facade of being public enforcers.
Few are saying that evaders don't need tracking down, but it's their tactics and behaviour that get people's backs up where there's a presumption of guilt. I don't care if 99.9% of people have a TV - their job is to find the 0.1%, not treat 10% as if they were dishonest and start threatening them with sanctions they don't deserve because it's cheaper to do it that way, and many will pay up in response to the threats even if they didn't need a licence.0 -
so you are saying people will by a licence because they get a letter even if they dont have a tv? those people need there heads seeing to!***** on the road to debt freedom *****

There are two ways to get TVL out of your life. Either pay the licence or battle with the continued TVL harassement.
You should read a personal account on the extraordinary strengths a person needs to do to get TVL out of their life (because they didn't choose to pay the licence):

That's the effect the threats can have on more vulnerable people, which Capita target indiscriminantly. If you search the forum you'll find cases of it happening. Not necessarily haven't got a TV at all (though I'm sure I remember one case at least) but where their circumstances meant they didn't need one but they paid up anyway because of their fear of being 'searched', 'interviewed under caution' and 'taken to court' or 'imprisoned'.0 -
like i said i'm sure there are more things in todays society to be afraid of than gettin a letter, i can asure you vunerable people are not "targeted", and i think you are unfair to say that i worked there for over 3 years and treated everyone with dignity and respect which i can tell you i did not receive the same treatment back i was subjected to extremely abusive language personal insults from people just ringing up for no other reason than to be abusive.***** on the road to debt freedom *****

FYI, I know a friend that pays the licence even though she has no aerial.
I keep telling her that she doesn't need a licence and she should spend the £130 each year on a holiday but she thinks she needs one because the letters implies if you have a TV, you need a licence. She also thinks it is better to pay than receive all these scary letters and the possibility of some guy knocking on her door and coming into her place.0
