A very strange marketing ploy as it will shorten the life of the mattress.
I was talking to someone today who had been reading a few American forums, and they said that it has gone full circle over there. Most people have got wise to the production cost saving non turn mattresses. Now they are advertising turnable as a feature.human_being wrote: »But thank you for your advice. Are you saying I could get a king-size open sprung turnable mattress for less than £159 then? What sort of budget range should I be looking for? (and where?!)
I don't think the one in the link was top of the range for £159, and should really be cheaper as it only has quilting on one side. You can get a top of the range, two sided, firm, open coil sprung mattress for under £200.human_being wrote: »And why would a pocket-sprung mattress be unsuitable for a futon base? (it doesn't have slats - it is solid.)
Thanks.
Sorry, most futon beds I have seen don't have a solid base.......in that case it would be suitable for a pocket sprung mattress. However with pocket sprung it is very important to get a two sided one.0 -
going for another look tomorrow and he can have a lie down on it, did seem pretty firm though
can I get it a better price online or even a mattress of the same build/quality?I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. took him for another look today and he lay on loads of mattresses, the one he liked the best was a Dorlux Manhattan 4' £189, this will be 2-3 weeks delivery
can I get it a better price online or even a mattress of the same build/quality?
From what I understand the Flexiform spring system is their version of the very unreliable miracoil system. Most manufacturers have now stopped making this spring system due to reliability and noise.
If I were you I's stick with a good quality open coil sprung mattress, which you should be able to find for less than the Dorlux on line.0 -

we have an Ikea bed and mattress and so does our daughter and luckily we're very happy with them, son has a high sleeper but has grown over 15 inches in 2 yrs and needs a proper bed, I'm going for a 4' in case he carries on growing but a double may take up too much space, as he is nearly 16 I want a decent mattress for him and need pointing in the right direction, I don't really have any idea how to get good quality for good value,
so I'm stuck right now, the shop I'm getting the frame from are local and friendly but they obviously want me to buy the mattress from them! so I need some advice on what is good and what is not pleaseI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Ok, I'll do my best without breaking any rules.
Apart from Kozeesleep (Birmingham), and Dorlux, what other makes do they sell (especially independent manufacturers)?0 -

this is the company
but I'm happy to get the mattress elsewhere if I knew a little more about them
I've started reading this thread from page 1 and am I right in thinking a pocketsprung would be a better mattress?
I know you have to be careful but if you say a good quality unbranded mattress is a good idea, how do I know what is good quality
I've realised that I need a turnable mattress too so am learning a little bitI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. It's a shame they don't show their whole range on the web site. Do you know what other makes they sell.
As for pocket sprung, what type of base is it going on?0
