After a firm, (but preferably not full of spings you can feel when u lay down ) double mattress for a room i let out, obviously the cheaper the better and possibly (but not essential) delivered

I've got a memory foam one, cost £300 and I love it to bits but dont really want to stretch to that, anyone know of a good place to get a cheap but firm and comfy mattress?

    Thanks in advance

All you need to look for is a middle to higher end of the range open coil sprung mattress. You should be easily find one for way under £200.

Thanks, he's nearly recovered fully now, but just the odd pain in certain positions which have been highlighted when trying to get to sleep.

    Anymore ideas?

In that case just the optimum 2" to 2.5" of memory foam would be better. With a density of between 60 and 70kg m3.

I'd go for a good quality open coil sprung mattress, as it will withsatand being moved about better than a pocket sprung.

You can get top of the range open coil sprung for under £150.

Thanks for the reply. Would it be worth getting one with a memory foam layer? I've seen the La Romantica Violet for example. I would like to stretch to a top-of-the-range mattress as it will be used regularly and need one with good support. Is the combination of open coil springs and memory foam a good one? Also does it matter if it's non-turn in this case?

Until I found this site I didn't realise choosing a mattress could be so complicated. Appreciate the advice.
  • How hard are the Ergoflex mattresses? Quite tempted as I'm getting a little fed up with springs coming though our current mattress and need to change!
I understand Memoryfoam is harder than regular mattresses, but as long as its not like sleeping on the patio, should be fine.
Must take a look at Tims products too.

Open coil sprung with memory foam are an option.

It isn't as important to turn open coil sprung mattresses as often as pocket sprung, and they are far tougher. This is due to the fact that open coil springs all support each other rather than working independently like pocket springs.

    Hi,

Anyone knows where can I buy a good quality high density foam mattress?
I'm trying to find a king size mattress, with a 35kg/m3 density, I don't care if has a memory foam layer or not. I just care that is from a trusted seller / website (I'm tired of wasting my money ).

    Thanks!

I would say it's not comparable to a soft medium or firm like pocket springs/open coil. Having slept on one for a while now I can honestly say that it does not feel hard at all. The dense memory foam layer probably helps with the softer feeling. It does indeed feel rather luxurious. :)

Whatever you do get make sure it's a little softer than what you would normally get unless you have a sprung wooden floor. Normally with a divan base or slats on a bedstead you would have a little more give.

    Hi Tim,

Just wanted to say thanks for your advice.
Eventually went ahead and bought the Hypnos Evesham mattress. Looks very good value to me. It's firm which was exactly what i wanted.

Slept in it for two nights now....no backpain in the morning. My old Simmons gave me backache everyday. This is wonderful. Looks very well made and feels great.

    Thanks!

Using it on the floor would be no different to using a platform top divan base.
