I'm not sure why my comments are being misunderstood so much and I don't know how to be any clearer.
So I'll leave you to it...
I understand your comments perfectly well. What I don't understand is why you're making them.
Saying that it's pointless if I cancel my cancellation without getting a deal contributes nothing.0 -
if you hand in your 30 day notice looking for a good deal is it imperative to contact/sign up with Sky/BT to get the ball rolling as it were or will Virgin retentions contact you anyway?
Nope, you dont need to sign up to anyone, they have no way of knowing as they are separate networks.
VM retentions will contact you anyway...0 -
That's the whole point though, I don't want to go to Sky. If it was too expensive I'd just drop down to a cheaper VM package, I have no need for TV, phone line Etc.
They do decent discounts on BB-only, I've had one for the last few years. I'm just trying to establish what anyone else is paying for the top packages so I know what I may be able to get.
closest to you recently would be...I called up this afternoon to enquire as to when the increase would happen. Currently on Vivid 152 + M phone. I was offered, without any prompting, £9 loyalty discount taking my broadband to £23 a month for 12 months, with the discount applying for 18months. I also renewed my landline upfront for £164. Pretty happy!
But other than that, no one has reported anything BB only recently.0 -

Cool. Thanks.
I only asked because some people have mentioned that BT/Sky had contacted Virgin to transfer services, etc, which prompted the retentions team to stop them leaving.0 -
Hi,
Love this thread.
Just phoned virgin media to cancel my current contract. She didn't put me through to retentions she just accepted my notice and gave me details about collecting the box. Will this still prompt a call from them?
Will they try keep my business if I'm only on the medium tv and small broadband plus phone line?
Thanks0 -
I have 150Mb BB, XL TV with Tivo Box, and extra V box in the bedroom that I don't even use now son has left home, and 24/7 calls for £84.63/mth. I have been with Virgin for 20 years and felt it was getting too expensive, so called retentions yesterday. Basically the lady offered me a reduction in speed to 100Mb, remove the extra V Box and downgrade the phone to free weekend calls only. She said it would be £63.24 for 6 months then £66 for a further 6 months. Considering I was getting a downgrade in BB speed, phone service and removal of the V Box I didn't think it was really a discount at all. I said I would speak to my wife and maybe cancel. Phoned back today and a guy I spoke to couldn't do any better. He said the best he could do is keep me on 24/7 calls and charge me £73/month!!
To be honest i hardly ever use the phone, so not sure I even need it. I don't really want to go to Sky and their crappy 17Mb speed which is all they do around my way, but I could go to BT and get less TV channels and 38Mb/s for £41. I don't really want to leave Virgin, but do think they are taking my custom for granted.
When I told the bloke I would talk to my wife and probably leave he didn't seem bothered and said, "I can arrange that for you now if you like". Is it really worth me cancelling and waiting for an offer? I am at work all day and wife works 3 days a week, so could miss any call they make.
The other factor is that I have done a check and the area I live in can't get very good BB speeds from BT or Sky. Estimates from them suggest i would get 1-3 Mb/s, which is obviously rubbish. Will Virgin take this in to account and offer me zilch?0 -
Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a problem with Virgin TV and Broadband services.
I'm not sure where to post this and this probably isn't the correct thread but will give some info.
I have been with Virgin for 5 years (credit limit is 155) and have always had TV and broadband with them. Since the start of my account I have probably had 30-40 late charges added to my account and because I do not pay by direct debit also get charged for paying with my card each month. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to reclaim late charges from them. Yes I know late payment is my fault but due to the amount I have paid to Virgin over the 5 years I have been with them it seems to me a little excessive, Again I am sorry that this is probably in the wrong section but if somebody could redirect me , I would appreciate it
Thank You0 -

You have nothing to lose for trying. They call your bluff by offering to do it no and you didnt go ahead...they won0 -

I have roughly the same as you apart from 100 mb broad band which I negotiated as Visidigi has advised many times and went down the cancellation route. Less than one week later I was called and negotiated the same package as you but down from 150 mb to 100 mb for £50 month inc. line rental. So as Visidigi recommends go for the cancellation for the best deals.0
