Our VM contract comes to an end in a couple of days. Currently, we pay £90 for the following:

    XL TV
    2 x Tivo Boxes
    Big Kahuna Sports Bundle
    152mb Internet

We used to pay closer to £80 but with various increases it has risen by £10. Has anyone had any luck getting a similar package for less?

    Cheers

Deals can often be bettered once you actually cancel and wait for Retentions to phone you. However no guarantee.

There should be no early termination fee if you are cancelling because of the price increase as you're entitled to do so provided you have done so within the agreed time.

That's a decision only you can make.

Got a call back over the weekend....

I was initially offered £19 for 50mb or £23.50 for 100mb. I gave the usual 'urmm I don't know' and was then offered £17 for 50mb or £20 for 100mb. The £20 for 100mb seemed a no-brainer to me considering I am currently paying £28.50/month for 50mb and the 100mb will be upgraded to 152mb before the end of the year.

Very happy with my new deal and thanks for your help jem!! :j

I'm currently on 30mb and paying £12.14 + line rental (pay it up front every year to make it cheaper). No TV or any other services.

Phoned to say Sky offered me their 38mb unlimited fibre BB free + cost of line rental of £17.40 per month. I wasn't offered this but used it as a benchmark and asked what Virgin could do.

Got through to retentions very quickly and spoke with a nice chap who was very helpful. Almost instantly he offered a £9 loyalty discount (currently £6) which I declined stating it's still quite far off Sky's deal. He then offered an extra £5 discount per month and upgrading my BB to 50mb as of today (with free upgrade to 70mb next year) for £3.50 /month. I deliberated a little and he noticed I've got the superhub 1 so he'd throw in the new superhub in addition and waive delivery cost of £10.

I took his offer. Breakdown cost is £3.50 for 50Mb BB x 12 + 164 line rental = £17.17 per month effectively. I'm more than happy with this - it's a lot less than I'm currently paying for a faster service.

I hope this helps if you come to negotiate a new deal through Virgin retentions.

    That's a very good deal!

Out of interest, what phone plan are you on?

Just checked and currently on 'M'. I don't use the landline but we did need to keep it since my wife receives a lot of calls from family abroad on it. We use our mobiles to make calls.

The deal you've been offered is a very good one too, therefore I'm glad we're both happy with what we've been offered for another year. :j

Was paying £20.50 for 50meg Broadband only. Latest increase was taking it up to £22.25 Had 7 months of a 12 Month Contract left.

Called them a few days ago to cancel. Retentions just phoned and ive settled for the same deal on a new 12 Month Contract with a SuperHub2 thrown in for £17.25 a month on 12 month Contract.

Tried getting him down to £16 but he said he was all maxed out with the discount he could offer. (Probably a lie) but im well happy with Virginmedia's broadband service anyway, and for less than a fiver a week and with it going up to 70meg soon and a Superhub 2 thrown in, i can't really complain.

    Thanks!

To be honest, if I didn't have time I would have accepted the £23.50 too. Looks like a lot of people getting decent deals - can't wait for next year's price increase! :rotfl:

  • Has anyone been called back by the retention department after rejecting their first offer? I cancelled then received a call to try and offer me a deal to stay a few days later. I rejected this as it wasn't a great deal. Hoping they'll call again with an improved offer as my leave date is the 24th of November.

I have been with Virgin Media for quite a few years and have TV (Tivo box) 100 broadband and phone with them.

Seeing the offers for Sky, especially taking into account any cash-back schemes, I called a few days ago to cancel everything.

They have just called offering me this deal

    12 month contract based upon

    1st 6 months at £49.99 for ..

TV deal I have now .. most of the channels (think it’s XL)
    Plus Sky Movies
Plus Sky Sports (that will please our son)

Broadband .. as I have now (100MB speed .. or whatever it’s called)

    Phone .. weekend calls free

    2nd 6 months

Extra £11/ month if I want to keep Sky sports (likely … ask my son)

Extra £26 / month if I want to keep Sports / Movies

Is this a decent deal please ... I do fancy Sky Sports.
