I phoned Virgin about my broadband. I was on 20 mbps broadband for £28.49 per month and no phone line. I have now changed this to 50 mbps (increasing to 75 in November) plus a Virgin phone line with free weekend calls for £20.49 per month for 6 months. This will rise to £25.49 per month for the following 12 months. But they said I could phone them in 6 months to see if any further discounts were available. They said this was the maximum discount when I pressed them about call charges as I don't make many calls.
I got this from the first person I spoke to without being referred to retentions.
You could have done better. Outbound retentions offered me your exact package for £19.50 on a 12 month contract. Including line rental.
By the way you were vastly overpaying the first time. I mean virgin don't even offer 20mb anymore. £28 just for that is ridiculous.0 -
Thanks for that. Only paying very slightly more than that for 6 months and I will see if I can keep them down to that after then. Yes, I was really getting ripped off. The price you pay for not paying attention to what you are being charged. I will in future.0

I'm not a very good negotiator, just renewed and wanted to cut the TV out of my package and VM wanted to charge me £5 a month more - for less services! Just wanted to mention VM have a flexible discount which in my case last 6 months and a regular loyalty discount which last 18 months, so after 6 months they said to call back to review my discounts.0

You should have just cancelled. Only way to get the best deals.0 -
This is the deal I just got from Virgin:
- 50 MB broadband: was paying £19.14 per month, now £14.50 per month,
- Line Rental Saver: paid £164 but got a £23 credit to my account,
- free Superhub 2, as I complained about speeds I was getting from my old model Superhub.
I didn't want the hassle of cancelling and waiting for them to call me, so this was from just a single phone call telling them that I was considering switching to Talk Talk.0 -
Please realise that to get the best deals you have to cancel and wait for the outbound retention team to call you. Do your research on what rivals will offer you including available Quidco, TCB etc...
It takes 10 minutes to do some research but will save you hundreds of pounds potentially.
Plusnet
Unlimited Broadband: £0 p/m
Line Rental: £185.88 p/a
Cashback £120.70 (£70.70 TCB & £50 Plusnet) (TCB ends today Saturday 17th but there'll be a similar offer soon)
Monthly Cost £5.43
Quote that as your reason for leaving and see what they offer when they call you back. You have a 14 day cancellation period anyway if you start a switch0 -
I phoned VM today to cancel. I told them I was considering Talk Talk. I wasn't offered anything!!!! I pay £38pm for Broadband and anytime phone plus caller display and line rental. My last monthly bill was £41. Enough is enough. After a lengthy silence on the phone I was told they would send me a prepaid envelope to return my Hub. Has anyone got any recommendations? Hold tight, Sky or TalkTalk.0

50mb BB + basic phone. Didn't go the cancellation route but just asked them via chat to match current uswitch new customer deal of line rental + £5 for 12 months. They eventually did, which with line rental saver is £18.67 p/m.0

Just a quick question. Is there any pattern to what loyalty discount you should get? I went through to the "Thinking of Leaving" Dept and told them I'd seen a much better deal on BT and that my package was pretty bad. They offered me a different package with just £6 discount. But I've been with Virgin for well over ten years it might be much longer. I read someone else had a £17 loyalty discount.0
