Had a battle with VM over last few weeks as our 18 months contract was ending and our tariff for m+ tv, 30mb broadband and phone would have gone to £36/m (line rental included) - we called to haggle though they would not budge... In the end my husband cancelled our contract and I signed up a new contract as new customers get the same deal + tivo box for £31/m currently!!
other providers in my area don't compare for broadband so we had to stick with them. My advice if you can is to cancel your contract and sign up as a new customer if you have someone else leaving in the household. It is saving us £90 over 18 months0 -
I put my cancellation in on Wednesday - but i missed the outbound retentions call on Friday as i was at the hospital with my Wife..
Will they call back?
The other issue is i am at work most of the day and they will likely call when I am not in...? Do they ever make evening / weekend calls?
You can go on their online chat or call them up (i think up to 8pm) - just say you are having second thoughts, what are they prepared to offer you to keep you. New customers get far better offers though so if the contract is under your name, then switch it with your wife's name or vice versa... we did that yesterday and it save us £90 over 18 months. Despite speaking to their retention team, they couldn,'t match that deal!0 -

I done some calculations last night based on retention deal vs cancelling and getting another family member to sign up. Over the 18mths, the retention deal saved me 6 quid. Maybe Virgin are getting wise now......0 -
Just so you know guys, There are good deals to be had with VM, I was paying £75 a month plus any additional calls... What I had was above, Now VM have upped Broadband to 60, given free installion for a new Superhub 2, Upped phone calls to anytime and added Sky Movies!!! All for £60.00, Retentions man was fab :T0

Hi. I've been considering this option but I'm not quite sure how it'd work. My wife and I have the same surname and the account is currently under her name. We also can't signup using the website because it says there are active services there. Would I have to get my wife to cancel, then wait for them to disconnect everything and then signup using my name? The problem with this, is that it would mean a period of time without broadband, which I can't really have as I need it for work and online banking.0 -

It gives me until 19 Nov 2013 to renew the Line Rental Saver, despite the fact that the present one runs until my contract expiry of 7 Jan 2014. Haven't spoken to them yet and would appreciate others views and experiences of this before I do so.
It seems to me that they are effectively calling on me to renegotiate my contract now, well before its expiry. Last time I did so I had wind of an upcoming increase in charges and was able to include that in my negotiations. At the moment I don't and, even if such an increase caused me to give 31 days notice of cancellation, the remainder of my £120 would be forfeit as it is non refundable.
A typical VM conundrum and why I am now weary of this annual hassle. I have just transferred my entire VM email content to gmail, and will inform all my contacts of my gmail address. Then I only have to cut the cord that binds me...
Just an update for anyone else that may be interested. The reason they send this out 2 months early is (apparently) so they can continue to bill us correctly for the offer, not sure why they need payment so early though. He did say the offer should still be available when my current offer finishes in early Jan but it's difficult to predict if it will be exactly the same rate as they're offering now.
He also said my 20mb BB would be £10.15 or I could go for 30mb which is £10.50 but then I'd have to pay an extra £20 for the router upgrade.
Finally, the chap I spoke to yesterday (CS not retentions) said they would be announcing price increases today effective from 1st of Feb but the chap I spoke to today (in retentions) said he didn't know anything about any forthcoming price increases :huh:0 -
Thanks for your update, p5x. Once again my default action, of when in doubt do nowt, holds true. I'll contact them again in the New Year and see then whether they'll retain me or reject me.
In reality this would appear to have been a try on, rather like telling you that the prices are going up tomorrow, so buy now!0 -

Just another opportunity to call in for a discount.
Failing to call in = no discount = paying over the odds.0
