  • Hi Betamax,

I missed a call from retentions (they have only called once so far), as I wasn't back from work.

I also had a call this morning from them saying that they had received a notification of my telephone number being ported to another provider and that I may be charged. Pointless call really as I'm all out of contract, so spoke to them briefly to clarify this. No offers were made by this person.

    Hi folks,

Well, I've gone further than I have gone before and put a cancellation notice into VM.

My plans are to lose the TV, migrate my home phone number which is only used for incoming calls anyway to a VoIP service and just have broadband. I'd like a deal with VM on the broadband so I declined their 1st offer of £27.50pm for Freeview via the VM box, phone and 30MB BB, their 2nd offer of £22.50pm for BB only and their final offer of £20.50 for BB only.

I've had to leave my phone active for now so that I can port to a VoIP provider - they wouldn't cancel it as I wanted to port.

So, I'm left holding out that VM retentions will call me and make me a better offer on the BB.

What number do retentions call from? We usually ignore unrecognised numbers on the landline, but I plan to add their number into the phone so I can see when it's retentions.

I hope this all works out in my favour now the cancellation is in!

    Hello Karlos,

I am in the same boat, apparently I am at the top level of loyalty bonus. I get a credit of £11 per month. I have put in cancellation a week ago. Got a missed call from Telemarketing, so I rang back and got through to the normal customer services they still said they I wouldn't get any better than I have now. I asked why did TM ring me, they said not sure but they wouldnt be able to offer any more than I have now........

3 weeks till I get cut off.....

You have to play a waiting game with outbound retentions. I cancelled on a Friday and got a call from them the following Monday. I think they call from an 0800 number but don't count me on it.

Yes that was the missed number. It told me to ring 150.

    Thats pretty good.

I'm currently on the same deal, paying £35 a month. In my last month, so its time to negotiate.

Did you get that deal through retentions?

I am a new customer. The original deal (i think they call it starter pack)was 32.99 £ but after the order and before the install I called to cancel and said I found a better deal elsewhere so they are applying a 8£ adjustment every month as they can't 'officially' give me such a deal.
This is valid for the 12 month contract and will be reviewed at the end, currently costs 24.99

Gave my notice last month in early advance, so my cut off date is 11 November 2013. Got a call from them 2 weeks ago offering 60 meg only at £22.50. Declined the offer.
They rang again on Thursday and offered the same deal. Again i declined. The rep told me this was the best offer i would get and as i use the internet alot, would be stuck if i went elsewhere..

Heres where i now worry. Im on holiday the week before i get cut off. Back on the Sunday morning(10 Nov).

Should i call on the sunday to get a deal and just accept what i get, will the retentions team even be open?

Also if i let them D/C me, will they call back like sky do to get you to return and are they likely to charge for this?

    Just bumping this back up..

Vm have sent me a letter asking me if I want to renew my line rental saver even though it's not due for another 3 months yet.

I'm planning on doing it again this year but I'm weary that they'll increase the price of my broadband (currently £8 per month) when my current offer finishes and then I'll have no choice but to accept their new price.

    Any thoughts ?
  • I've had exactly the same letter, p5x. It gives me until 19 Nov 2013 to renew the Line Rental Saver, despite the fact that the present one runs until my contract expiry of 7 Jan 2014. Haven't spoken to them yet and would appreciate others views and experiences of this before I do so.

It seems to me that they are effectively calling on me to renegotiate my contract now, well before its expiry. Last time I did so I had wind of an upcoming increase in charges and was able to include that in my negotiations. At the moment I don't and, even if such an increase caused me to give 31 days notice of cancellation, the remainder of my £120 would be forfeit as it is non refundable.

A typical VM conundrum and why I am now weary of this annual hassle. I have just transferred my entire VM email content to gmail, and will inform all my contacts of my gmail address. Then I only have to cut the cord that binds me...

For about £3.50 per year (less in the first year) you could get a domain name. This means once your set up you can change to any supplier and by using the domain name forwarding service nobody will even know your changing from one company to another. I just changed from VM to BT without having to inform anybody as my email address stays the same. You can also have a more personalised address so if your name is Joe Bloggs you could have an email address as @joe-bloggs.co.uk (you can put anything before the @)
