Virgin Media Retention thread

There is a cost advantage to me this time for having broadband with Virgin without a phoneline that I don't want or need, and getting TV from Sky.
Not sure what you mean by a sky box without a phoneline is similar to freesat?
Ok I understand it now !!
What I meant was if you had a Sky box without internet connection then it would be similar to Freeview or Freesat but with the extra Sky channels if you had decided to pay for them.
Now there's the new YouView boxes (available from BT and Talk Talk to rent or retailers to buy) which are essentially Freeview but need an internet connection to access catch-up and any on-demand extra services.
They are similar in some features to the Sky and Virgin TV boxes for recording and catch-up but without any monthly rental payable if you were to buy the box yourself.:beer:0 -
Just spoke to retentions who called me, contract nearly up and had given notice to cancel which was due this week.
originally on 10mb bb weekend calls XLTV £38 is a month but getting large phone bills due to calling 0845 numbers.
Managed to get 3 for £30 deal 60mb bb- MTv- XLphone package with 150 mins 0845/ international and mobiles plus free local calls all day.
Then started playing the game to get 2 months free, they wouldnt budge so I said FORGET IT! lol then they gave in, 2 months free!:T
I then paid the £120 line rental in advance for the year so it brings my monthly bill down to £16.50 minus a £60 credit so not bad:):):)0 -
Sounds like a good deal.
Do you have just one TiVo box ?
The only disadvantage is the M tv service is basically Freeview and has none of their On Demand programmes available as they come with M+ and higher tiers. Also, any programmes you may have already recorded will suddenly be unavailable unless the channel is one of those also available on the M tier.0 -
Jsut put through my disconnection request AGAIN after picking up a 50% off code for Sky, £38 a month and i will probable negotiate with Virgin for a lower bundle including the TV upstairs... even if I take premier from Virgin and the Sky offer I am still paying £20 a month less!!! bargoon!0

I'm currently on the following package with VM:
Home Phone (M) - Unlimited Weekend Calls
Digital TV (M) - Basically Freeview HD Channels with V HD Box
Broadband (L) - 10Mbps with Superhub
Paying £30.40 per month including line rental (increasing to £32.64 per month from 1st February 2013)
I am in the middle of a 18 month contract, but cancelled my package without fee when notified of the price increase.
I got a call from Outbound Retentions who have now given me the following package:
Home Phone (M) - Unlimited Weekend Calls
Digital TV (M+) - 80+ Channels Incl 6 HD - Free TiVo (500GB) Box with Free Installation (Normally £50)
Broadband (XL) - 30Mbps with Superhub
+ 1 Month Free of Charge
Paying £34.90 per month including line rental (increasing to £36.99 from 1st February 2013)
Equivalent to £33.73 per month over 12 month contract. Not bad considering I'm still in-contract, and I am happy to pay £1.09 extra per month for a better TV package, 500GB TiVo box with installation, and triple speed broadband.
I'm thinking about paying for 12 months line rental upfront for £120 and saving an additional £60 though. Then it's only the equivalent of £28.73 per month.
For those who are expecting a call back from outbound retentions, they also offered the following which I thought was a decent deal, but I wanted a few more channels:
Home Phone - XL with Unlimited Landline calls and 150 minutes to use on 0844/0845/0870, international or UK mobiles numbers.
Digital TV - M - Freeview HD Channels with Free 500GB TiVo with free installation.
Broadband - XL - 30Mbps Broadband with free Superhub
All for £30 per month including line rental on a 12 month contract. Also available with line rental saver option, but no option for TV/BB upgrade or several months free as it is already heavily discounted. It would have cost £40+ just to go from TV M to TV M+.0 -
I am a noob when it coming to haggling getting the best deal as I tend to be loyal (which no one rewards). Currently I'm on home phone M, broadband L, tv M+, plus line rental for £35.90. I signed up about 6 months before they offered TiVo so I don't have a TiVo box.
I'm did have tv XL until a couple of months ago, but had to lower my package due to cost (CS were unable to offer a discount)
Just rang up CS today and apparently there are no offers at all on anything.
I'm fed up with VM now as they don't seem to be doing anything to keep existing customers. After Christmas I am going to ring up and cancel, but I don't know whether to cancel the whole lot or just the tv? I hate that this seems to be the only way to get any deal out of VM. What should I be aiming for in terms of a deal, and what deals should I ignore from them?0 -

If you phoned normal CS, it is unlikely you will get an offer. Those getting the best offers phone the number for "thinking of leaving" - you have strong grounds at the moment due to the price rise and can leave (even if you are still within the contract period, only 30 days notice required).
If necessary, give 30 days notice - they will likely call you back to make an offer (outbound retentions have better offers than those you can get through by phoning them). If not, phone on day 29 iif you still wisht to stay and cancel your cancellation.

I've got Sky coming in tomorrow thanks to the 50% off offers from MSE, but I have had a change of plan.
I've orderd up the full entertainment/Sports and Movies pack with HD and Multiroom, but thinking about the limits of the multiroom and having already got a 1TB TiVO I think i am going to cancel the multiroom with the Sky engineer tomorrow (in the hope of protecting the Cashback thats showing) and then negotiating a bundle from Virgin for the Internet, phone and basic TV for the second room.
Going to give them a ring tomorrow if i don't hear from them, but I am pretty surprised to see the price of the basic bundle seems to have gone up £3 this morning (I am sure it was £31 all in).
That way, after 12 months of Sky I can leave, plug the TiVo back in and wait a few weeks for the 75% offer to come in to rejoin them0 -
Deal done! Outbound retentions called this evening:
M Phone
M+ TV using the existing 1TB Tivo
60mb Broadband
Line Rental included
£33.50 a month
Also provided a credit to write off the line rental increase coming in February for the next 12 months.
Very happy all told0 -

How is it possible to get a cashback (Quidco?) and the 50% off MSE offer on the same order ?0
