Just got my letter staing £2.10 price increase from April.I m not pleased so sent a complaint letter to state that i thought the FREE speed upgrade was deceiving because there is now a price increase in April.I told them that if they increase my bill i will look elsewhere, thats phone broadband and 3 mobile phone all on Virgin, so that quite of bit of custom they would lose. Also stated i would complaint to the OFT and Trading Standards about the price increase and the way they stated that the speed increase was free of charge, also asked them to justify moving the free phone calles to 7 pm from 6 pm.
    I await there reply.

you see, theres a slight problem with your theory - the 'free' speed upgrade is not connected to the price rise. The price rise is an annual event every April with VM - £2.10 seems a small increase considering you have all those items - although you can't cancel an in contract Virgin Mobile deal, they are not covered by the same contract.

OFT and trading standards won't be interested in your complaint, VM have offered a way to cancel your contract if you do not agree to the price rise.
  • Just been offered the following - any thoughts on the quality of the deal:

    XL TV
    Sky Movies / Sports
New TiVo box (free install / free activation)
    Old V+ box relocated upstairs

    XL Telephone
    087 numbers
    Caller display
    Line rental

    10mb BB (std upgrade soon)

    Total (after price increase) £71

    Hello everyone.

I currently have Large Broadband with Free Weekend calls.
I pay £24.95 a month which includes the line rental.

I have had this deal for a few years when i got rid of the tv and got a freeview box (price was £18.95 all in back then)

Just got the letter to say price increase of £3.15 per month so £28 and change per month. Anyone manage to get cheaper or am i at the low end anyways.

New Price £19.40 rising to £20.90 after Aprils increase
    Happy with that :T
  • Previous deal was

    L Broadband
XL TV with Tivo (free install)
    Second box
    Phone with weekend calls

£36.40 including line rental for 12 months.

Tried to get it without phoneline but it worked out more expensive so needless to say I took the £36.40 deal.

Called to cancel as my bill was going up £3.50 and wanted to see what they'd offer. Waive the raise in form of £24 credit (7 months of contract left) which I refused.

Retentions called offering same deal saying they'd credit the difference to accommodate rise, quoting new bill as 46.40. I asked about that as I have £10 affiliate discount. He "spoke to his manager" and offered a further £70 credit and goodwill gesture. My account was credited with £96 today and monthly average bill for remainder of contract is actually down!
  • I Moved from Sky/BT/Orange a couple of years back to Virgin - the full package - TV, Broadband & Landline in a consolidation & costcutting exercise.
I have to say - their broadband is 2nd to none.
Plus I do like the Tivo box we moved to last Sept/Oct.
BUT the prices have crept up & up, and now they tell me they are adding a further £4 (yes - I know its only £4!) to my monthly bill - this will take it to around £62 a month - excluding any "stray peak calls",and I DONT EVEN HAVE SPORTS OR MOVIES!
I have a Tivo box, an extra box upstairs, XL TV, Evening & Weekend Calls, L Broadband, + Phone line rental. (Plus As Part of the Tivo deal _ I'm on loyalty discount of £8 month until Oct! taking me down to £57) - by Oct I'll be paying £70 !! - HELP !!!

When is your contract up? If its in October then I think you may have to wait till Sept before negotiating a new contract - through retentions or putting your notice in.
As for the price hike I am not sure there is much that can be done (though there may be other advice soon on that one)

sng165 - Virgin media increasing their prices is breaking their side of the contract. Simply ring them up and refuse to accept the price rise and give your 30 days notice to cancel. No charges as it is them breaking the contract.

Straight away they will offer you a discount. But if you give the 30 days notice and wait, you will get a call from retentions and they will offer you a deal.

I am in a similar situation to yourself, I had XL TV, L Phone, L BB. Tivo, V+HD and regular HD upstairs. Was about £55pm IIRC. I don't really use the tv, so when the price increase came along I rang up, cancelled all tv. Getting BB & phone from 15 March for £19 pm.

I have had a call from retentions offering me 1 box, with M Tv (basically freeview), for £22pm, but I don't need the tv so rejected it.

As already said you have right to give 30days notice due to price rise. i believe it is written in the letter about rise. so put your notice in and hold your nerve important sure you will get a call. Remember you can cancel the notice period before it expires but that would mean your back to contract and agree the price rise. good luck keep us posted.

    Currently paying £29/month for:
    L BB
    M TV
    M Phone
    V+ box

    After some discussion was offered:

    60MB BB
    M Phone

    for £26.40/month (with no TV)

Bit more haggling and got caller ID included.

Was thinking of accepting but then told there would be a £30 installation fee for the Superhub. Gave my notice in instead.

Think I'll be happy with that deal if they drop the fee but last time I tried leaving didn't get anything any better.

Not too bothered about dropping the TV as Freeview provides much the same but I will miss the V+ box so may yet end up staying as I am!
