Thanks to this thread, I've just called up to cancel in the hope of a call back in a few days. Well the man on the phone immediatly nearly halved my bill with no contract tie in at all
Ok so I've only got phone and broadband but from £43 to £24 a monthy and no tie in this has got to be a deal. Told him I was about to sigh up with sky for TV so It'l be interesting if they still call me in a few days with a tempting offer. Thanks to all of you who posted as I needed to read your comments to give me the kick up the ar*e I needed to start looking at this.

Sorry if you have read the other thread I started but I didn`t find this thread when searching.
I pay VM over £100pm for TV, phone and BB. Cancelled 3 weeks ago and was trying to get the new 500Gb Tivo for FREE.
Offered only free fitting by outbound retentions. Since then have ahad a general leaflet I assume to all customers offering the same, so effectively no extra reduction over and above what everyone can have.
Rang OR today, I wasn`t surprised that they had no idea that this offer had gone to customers, checked with manager but still nothing extra can be offered, so still want £49.95 for the Tivo.
Anyone done any better?0 -

Yes, you do.
You are paying too much.
IF I go with the deal they have offered me (see above).
I will have....
50Mb BB
2 phone lines, 1 with free landline calls.
1 500Mb Tivo box.
2 HD V+ boxes (or whatever they are called, the recordable ones).
XL TV with sports and movies (on all 3 boxes).
For £116pm0 -
Coming to end of my years deal with Virgin for 10Mb Broadband only without phoneline (£22pm), it was the middle package when I signed up.
Thinking about upgrading package to include phone line, faster broadband maybe and 2 mobile phone contracts. Possibly TV too but not sure.
Anyway after reading this thread I was wondering if I could use this in my case for "switcing to sky" to negotiate a deal. Granted I'm not a big customer to lose but they can get some more money out of me if they offer a decent deal.0 -
Hiya,
I'm currently paying £31.49 a month for XL (30MB) Broadband, M TV (Not to be confused with the current M+), and M Phoneline.
Anyone think they'd be willing to bring this down at all? Or do you think I could get them to upgrade me to M+ TV and throw in a V+ HD box for free?
One issue is I only upgraded to 30MB BB recently and I'm not sure if in doing so I committed to a further 12 months service or not?

I just phoned them up and decided to opt for the "change your package" option than retentions.
Currently on:
M Phone (evenings + weekends)
Caller ID
XL (20Mb) Broadband
No TV
£36.99
I was offered a new 12month contract changing my XL BB to XXL BB
Extra costs was £5 / month but there was an extra £5/month for the first 6 months. So essentially, it's free for the first 6 months, then a fiver a month afterwards.
She did say that I needed a new Supermodem and although installation is free, there's a £30 one-off charge to supply the modem and comes insured / warrantied for any damage or failure.
Unfortunately, because I apparently need this new supermodem, they need to send an engineer around and I couldn't tell her when I'd be in. I did ask if she could have it posted out to my work address and although the thought it was possible, she didn't have the option on her screen as we went through the order.
So for the moment, I've put the upgrade on hold until I can confirm when I can have an engineer come round. She did put the discussion and deal in my account notes so I can phone them up in the next week and have the same deal offered without having to go through it.
I thought it wasn't a bad option. OK, there's a £30 charge for the modem and overall, throughout the year, once you put all the costs in, it ends up being a fiver extra which isn't bad for a 20Mb to 50Mb upgrade0 -
Thank you to all who have posted their new deals. It gave me a good idea what I could push for when phoning VM.
I phoned customer services Thursday and the line was terrible - not a good advert for their product! He couldn't help and I couldn't hear so I called retentions. This bloke was quite indifferent and not really willing to help much so I said I'd think about it. I called again yesterday and got the same man again, he had the same attitude so I cancelled all services.
Determined to get a better deal I phoned again this morning and spoke to a great man, Indian by the sound of it and he couldn't have been more friendly and wanting to help find the right services at a price that suited my budget.
I now have - M+ TV
XL phone
L broadband
I was given a price of £40.99 which is the web price for new customers. I asked for my customer loyalty discount, at first told none available but when I told him to go ahead with the cancellation the price was reduced to £32.99 with no V+ services. I said that although I used it I couldn't afford the V+ extras at £5 and he reduced that to £2 and I have chosen to add the no 0845 numbers at another £2 a month.
Total £36.99 a month fixed for 2 years and a 1 year contract.

I was in a similar situation to you. Phoned and submitted my 30 day cancellation, and still got a daily Retentions call from VM. Ended up settling for L BB/M TV/M Phone/Line Rental for £16.99 all in.
It's worth making the call and forcing VM to accept your 30 day notice request. Worst case is you have to cancel the cancellation tag at day 28.0
