Yes new customers offered discounts, this problem goes deeper than that, once the new customer special discount period is finished they revert to a standard rate which is cheaper than the standard rate for old customers for exactly the same service. How can a company have many diffeent levels of "standard rate"? This is overcharging. Unfairly overcharging old customers, by not updating their service charges to the same as the new rates.

It would be the same as BT or Virgin charging telephone line rental £11 for new customers but £15 for old customers.

Just like British Gas charging those on Click 1 more than new customers on Click 6. Or EDF charging those on online V1 more than those who had signed up to V5 a couple of years later.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

No, not just like that at all.

    Virgin is charging those on
    BB M (2Mb)
£9 for new customers standard rate,
BB M (2Mb) £18 for old customers standard rate.
And possibly BB (M) very old customers £25 standard rate (as yet unconfirmed)

Had you said British Gas charge
"Click 1" new customers £13p kwh,
"click 1" old customers 16p kwh.

Then I would have agreed that it was "just the same".
  • I originally signed up for Virgin Broadband 12 months ago at £9.99 a month, they are now charging me £17.99 a month after 12 months!

Will they reduce it if I say I'm going to cancel? If so by how much?

I don't want to risk calling them up just incase they cancel my internet straight away and I'm left without internet for a few months...

    Thanks

You should be able to get it for £10 per month with eBilling, £11 if you want the bill sent in the post. You need to go through to retentions - you want to leave.

I was in the same situation last month. Rang retensions said other suppliers were better value and asked if they were offering any deals. Got the £11 per month offer.
  • I was a Telewest customer when I signed up and have been paying £25 a month since the start - it has now dropped to 24 and my broadband has steadily increased from 1meg up to about 8meg I appear to be on the Broadband L package

Basically I see that new customers to this package get a free wireless router, PC guard total etc

On their website under 'Already with us?'it gives me the option to buy a wireless router for 40??

Is there anyway that I can get this and PC guard for free by threatening to cancel? Has anyone had any success with broadband only packages in a cable area?

Don't bother with PC Guard, by all accounts it's rubbish. what's wrong with your existing security?

In answer to your 2nd question , I suggest you read through this thread.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • I'm currently getting broadband M, starter tv and phoneline with weekend calls for 34.50. Phoned up earlier to see what they could do. Not sure if i was speaking to the right team but was told the best they could do was probably the 3 for 30. Anyone had a better deal recently in a similar situation? Thanks

Edit: Phoned this morning and was offered the same package at £20 a month for aslong as I stay with the company.

hi, I had exactly the same package as you, they offered me the 3 for 30 and £3.45 for evening calls, which I was quite happy with, Had to call them back twice because they hadn't changed the package, then last night checked my online bill, they changed package alright, but had charged me seperately! so have a bill for £50 odd, I'm not happy!, called 150 and they have now assured me its sorted, the chap said he would credit my bill accordingly staright away last night, just checked again and no credits showing. I shall give them another 24hours and then call 150 again no doubt listen to amy winehouse again!
just make sure they send you confirmation of your new package, I have asked 3 x now and am still waiting..............
