Thought I'd got it all sorted....
I'm paying £51 a month for 2mg Broadband and TV XL so phoned 'disconnections'. I was offered 10mg Broadband, V+ Box plus existing normal box and phone for £41 a month. I arranged a date for installation. As I was going 'mutiroom' the guy told me to ask for more inlet points than I actually needed because I was going to be charged £75 anyway. I asked for 3 extra points and he said I would then be able to move things around as I wanted in future.

Then I thought I'd phone and ask what I would be charged for an additional set top box in another room... Got through to a different bloke who was really off hand and basically told me that what I'd been told was all lies! He said that the engineer would not leave any live sockets in a house that did not have any equipment attached to them. He said that any 'spare' inlets would have to be terminated.

Has anyone else come up against this and is the price a good one?

    Cheers

The TV sockets should just be split off the main incoming connection, so as long as the incoming connection is live, so are all the other points, so you could move boxes from one room to the other, it is the box itself the is registered on the network.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

Yeah - I already have a 'live' socket with nothing attached - it was just this guy saying that if this was the case any like that would have to be terminated?
  • Just noticed that virgin's standard price for large broadband is £16, they've been charging me £18. I'm obviously going to call up, think i'm going to downgrade to M, which is £9 a month, but is there anything else I can do? Feeling very cheated.

Edit: Think i'm actually paying £18 for medium broadband only! It's £9 online!!

If I were you I would complain about being charged 18 /mth for service they are definately currently valuing and selling to customers @ 9 /mth (full price value) and ask for compensation.

They also say on my bills that the full price is 18 /mth but I have discounts off that which bring it down to 4.50 mth.

Aside from asking for compensation you should at the very least ask them to give you from this point onwards the current deal for bb & phone which is 15.50 mth = 11 + 4.50

They will say it is a 12 mth contract, to which you will be saying after x years with you I don't think I should be tied by a contract now.

They will say after the 12 mths it will rise again (the online says to £20 mth) you should try to get them put it indefinately and confirm the offer by email.

Once you have sorted your deal out you, me and everyone else should be complaining to OFCOM. trading standards and the OFT that Virgin is charging customers different rates for the same service -outside of any special offer contract periods.

You have to call 150 and select "I'm thinking of leaving"

Come back and report what you got please.

that's exactly what i'll be doing. we've been with ntl/virgin for at least 10 years now, was paying about £25 for internet until about a year ago when i called and got it reduced to £18. can't believe they#ve reduced prices and not passed it onto existing customer, my dad would still be paying £25 + £11 for phone line.

    Generally yes.
  • Still no calls from Virgin, due to be disconnected 12th Oct.

Ringing 150 and heading for `cancel` etc only ever leads to CS, not retentions.

Also, 0800 number found on here no longer works, recorded message gives a 0845 number which takes you to the same options as dialling 150.

Anyone recently been chased by `retentions`?
Are they still called that, or something different?
Anyone used a direct dial number to reach retentions recently?

    Thanks in advance.
