Virgin Media Retention thread

A similar thing happened to me - I had tv xl, BB and phone, plus an extra room box for £40, which was a deal for me about 14 months ago. Last month my bill jumped to around £65 for the same package. I was told that my discounts had run out and that I couldn't get them reinstated on my bill.
I phoned VM a few days later to cancel, as I could get a similar service with sky for £37 - 2 boxes, 6 tv packages, broadband and phone calls, and pay £12 for a BT line (I have one in my house so no reconnection charge) - therefore £49 total.
When I phoned to cancel with VM, I came away with a new 12 month contract, for the same services I currently have for £35.50 per month, with a 1 off charge of £75 for them to come and install one of those cool boxes that you can record a gazillion programmes at once.
:T
It's going to be installed this weekend.
But I bet they did not refund the £25 unexpected price hike0 -
I'm on Medium (2mb) BB only, when the initial 12mths were up, I rang and said I was leaving because there were loads of better/cheaper deals.
NOTE, I told them I was leaving, NOT, "please can you do me a better deal", I had a fall back plan (ADSL) if they didn't play ball.
I let them persuade me to stay at £9/mth, (£10/mth but quid off for online billing).
The deal is for 6mths and I won't hesitate to move if I don't get an acceptable new deal in November.
Well worth £9/mth.
Don't forget to renew the deal 30 days before it expires, otherwise you will be giving your 30 day notice of leaving in the £17/mth period0 -
I have phoneline and 2Mb BB currently for 15.50 mth
due to expire soon, and I'll be ringing up soon to at least get it repeated but maybe get a better discount. I've been reading previous posts and it seems no-one is getting better than 15.50, except one person 'noodlebutty' post #68 got phone & BB for £10 a month at the beginning of August.
Hoping someone can give me something to say or ask for...... ?0 -

Ideally want 3 V+ boxes installed.
First call they wanted 3 lots of install charges, box 1 £30 box 2 £75 and box 3 £150. I don`t think so.
Second call, all three boxes installed for £75.
They said there is no extra charges for the boxes once installed, but am sure if I ring again that will have changed.
Might just cancel and let them chase me.
As expected, next time they added £10 for the extra 2 boxes (£5 each).
Cancelled about a week ago but so far no calls.
Gone through the cancellation option a couple of times but always get Customer Services NOT retentions.
Is there a direct number for retentions?
Perhaps they have a point they cannot go below and if they have offered that and you still cancel they don`t bother calling.0 -
Yes well I phoned Virgin Media today to tell them I was thinking of moving to O2 and they made no attempt to stop me leaving. You'd think with after years as a customer they'd offer me something, sadly not the case.
That said, I've signed up to BT and O2 which will see my BB speed increase by four times for half the price. :T0 -
Have been customer Virgin Broadband for 2 years but recently been having trouble getting online. First connection disappeared, then couldn't get into Virgin Mail, and now for last 4 days can't get connected again.
Have phoned Virgin 6 times over the last 2 days and always music while on hold. Am on library computer now, and guess what - I can't log into my Virgin mail!!
I told them before, I was thinking of leaving but they are not offering me anything other than the £14.99 per month of the last 2 years. (I can't use the £10 a month broadband and phone offer as it is not my phone.)
I'm waiting for a MAC code to switch, but it is being sent to my virgin email (which I can't access) and I can't get hold of them on the phone. So now it looks like a letter.
Not a very happy bunny at present. Still, it can hopefully get better....0 -
I notice some customers on here are Virgin.net (ADSL) customers and not Virgin Media (Cable) customers.
ADSL - using the BT phone line infrastructure and requiring filters/splitters on the phone socket.
Cable using the cable network over co-ax the same system as their TV.
With ADSL you do require a MAC to transfer to another ADSL service.
The retention deals spoken about are for cable customers. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
never never use ISP email, for that reason and also it locks you down to them.
Use gmail, hotmail or yahoo.0 -

Use gmail, hotmail or yahoo.
Or like I have been doing since the mid 1990s have my own domain name and have POP3/SMTP mail from the domain name provider too. Looks better than Yahoo. GMail etc.
I agree never ever rely on ISP email accounts - just use them for SPAM accounts when you sign up for rubbish. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Does seem there was email issues: https://gps.virgin.net/service-announcements/status/ but state that it seems OK now. Doesn't mean everyone's is though.
As you are an ADSL customer you won't get the retentions offers like Virgin Media (Cable) customers do. Virgin.net ADSL has to rely on the BT network,It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
