Is this the best they'll offer?

Original deal : 2MB Broadband + Phone Line + Talk Unlimited paying £27.95/mth.

    New deal : 2MB Broadband + Phone Line + Talk Unlimited + Basic TV (M) paying £19.49/mth with a £30 installation fee.

I'm not really bothered about the TV package as its the same as Freeview but its the only way the lady said she could reduce the monthly charges. The alternative was £23.99 for the same B/band+Line Rental+Talk Unlimited as before.

They do seem to be cutting down on the offers, couple of friends tried again after their previous deals ended recently and the offers weren't as good as had been coming out as late - they were hoping for a deal like I was on.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Was originally on TV XL (and V+) and BB M for £21.50 a month... I shouldn't of been as I signed up for 3 for £30 offer. Anyway when I moved flats my discounts didn't move across and by the time i noticed they said they couldn't add back the offer as it didn't exist and couldn't be matched. Best they could do for my package was £34.50.

However if I took a phone from them (didn't have a landline) they could do much better offers (which I had to believe after talking to 3 reps). Turns out they could do the 3 for £30 (TV XL, BB M and Phone M), but in the end I went for:

    TV XL (continue V+)
    BB L (10mb)
    Phone L

for £35, no extra installation cost for the phone. Also got a couple of extra refunds too to fix previous bills so couldn't really complain. Was very close to moving to sky (and sky+), but the continued free setanta sports swayed me to stay with virign. Think its an ok deal, and the landline will come in useful as my mobile reception is getting really bad!
  • Moving house and have been offered this:

    Tak Unlimited
    Basic Broadband
    Medium TV (with V+)

£27.95 per month with free installation and a one off £30 for V+ box. This is £10 cheaper thahn I was on previously without V+.

Seems good but not as good as others have got. Could I get them down? Only agreed 1 week ago and the install hasn't happened yet.

  • hi just wondered what to do. i tried to get a deal from virgin media on the v+ package im already on 3 for £30 i said i wanted to pay no more than about £40 for the broadband, telephone with anytime calls the tv package any size and the mobile. the best they could do was £50 i tried to haggle with the supervisor but she was having none of it kinda take it or leave it so would i be better of staying as i am at £30 plus £7.95 anytime calls and buy a pvr poss humax or should i try again with virgin any ideas

    cheers
  • Were with virgin, we were on the 2 for £20 offer (TV M and the 2MB BB), it went up in price to £22.50, we were a litte disappointed and wanted to rock the boat a bit.

I contacted virgin about upgrading to the V+ box, as recently we had bought a new Plasma Tv, hence the need to have a HD input.

Several, and i mean several phone calls to virgin, still no luck, they wanted £150, then £75 for installation, it would be £45 a month for the XL Tv and the 2MB BB, in the end i had enough, and cancelled the lot (2 for £22.50 package).

The wife was panicing as we dont have a phone line, so with no virgin = no broadband.

2 days after we cancelled, the phone started to ring, it was virgin 'customer retention team' that rang us, to see why we had cancelled, and was there anything that would make us stay.

We then said we wanted the V+ box, as we had a new TV, we wanted the broadband too, that we never had a phone line, but 2 mobiles.

The guy had his say, then proposed an offer to us, this offer was..

    12month contract..

    2MB Broadband
    XL TV Package
M Phone line (free weekend calls)
    Free HDMI Cable
    Free Wireless Router
    Free Phoneline installation
    Free V+ Box
    Free V+ Box Installation
Free routing of old box to another location in the house, old box used as a freeview box (though could of pushed for this to be on in the price).

A nice big price of £29 per month

Only one issue, the box was installed on the saturday, and tuesday the box was cut off, apparently we went over the £100 limit on the account, being that the monthly line rental was £29, then somehow they charged us £150 for the V+ box.

Well the next conversation ended up with the box coming down too £75, then to £0 as they found someone to credit the account.

Just remember, they do record telephone calls, so this can be used for & against you.
  • Though, now we have the XL Tv package, the amount of stuff you can watch is endless, with endless amount of free music, and programmes its well worth the upgrade.

Songs were 20p a time, though its pretty much on all day, and been through the teletubbies series a few times now for the little one.

The bad news is that the V+ box lags when scrolling through the TV menus, and takes a whilst (1-2secs sometimes) between pressing the OK button, and the Tv doing something.
  • sounds like a good deal think i might give the 'customer retention team' a call and ask them to give me a good reason to stay
    well done
  • Retentions team have more power than normal customer services.....so "may" be able to sort you a better deal (although late they all seem a little grumpy offer wise...but its worth a try)

We have the full XL TV standard BB and all day telephone pack with a £20odd quid discount every month....we've just moved and were horrified to learn we would loose all discounts we'd had for the last 8yrs...a quick call to retentions soon sorted it

although I had to pay for a V+.....and to be honest really glad I did
We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will
  • I've got a V+ box, it's good and well worth bartering with them to get it. If you've been a good customer and paid your bills on time then you shouldn't have a problem blagging a free one.
