I'm currently paying about £60 a month for XL TV, Broadband and Phone (the "Unlimited Triple" deal) - I can get an equivalent deal on Sky for £45, but I don't actually want to switch because of Sky's installation charges and the fact that my phone line can only handle a maximum of 5MB - it'd be a big hit in speed from Virgin.
I'd like to ring retentions and see what they say, but I don't really know what they can give me - the Unlimited Triple package is already a "deal", which gives me a discount of £21 each month in order to bring it down to £60! Are Virgin still handing out discounts like candy at the mere mention of Sky, or are they starting to play hardball?0 -
Hi,
I'am currently 11 months tomorrow into my Virgin Media contract, I'am on the VIP package.
What deal do you guys reckon I can get if I call the Retention Dept.?
Thanks

I typed wireless router into Amazon and the first one which came up was £32.49.
Granted, the new gadget will consolodate 2 boxes into one, but £60 looks a bit steep for existing customers (I imagine most people wont want to upgrade their speed just to get £20 off the box).
Off course, a nice little enticement for new customers.0 -
Is there any way to get discount off the homehub without upgrading from m? £60 seems very steep when you can get a wireless router (compatible with VM) on Amazon for £24.0
-
The new VM hub includes a cable modem and the only cable modems that will work on VM are the ones they supply. The only way you'd get a discount is by negotiation at renewal time.
Apart from being one box instead of two it offers no benefit over a modem and separate router. It only comes with 10/100Mbps ports too. If you want to use any custom router firmware (DD_WRT, Tomato, etc.) you'd need to add your own router to it anyway as you won't be able to flash the VM hub and expect it to continue working.
Pretty much nothing to see. Move along. Move along.0 -
Electronic e-bill discount !!!! being removed.
"We’re writing to let you know about a change to your monthly bill. Now that eBilling is our main billing option, we won’t be offering our £1 discount from 1st October. But don’t forget, there’s still a £1.25 charge for customers who choose to have paper bills, so you’ll carry on saving £1.25 a month – and a few trees too."
Thats an interesting way to tell you your bills are going UP

Hey all
I just had an interesting call with VM retentions.
I am currently paying £17 a month for the lowest broadband they do (10mb).
I am looking to add tv including lots of sport/documentaries and found that Sky are doing a fairly decent package for £45.50 a month which is:- Unlimited broadband (but only through phone which would be a blow I reckon I would get 8mb max)
- Really good tv package including Variety Pack, knowledge, lifestyle, sports pack 1+2 (plus ESPN free for 3 months)
- Free evening and weekend calls
- SKy+ box (not HD)
- £30 installation fee
- No Line rental
So with this knowledge in hand I rang VM. I waited about 20 mins to get through, but got through to a nice geordie lass who after initially saying that they could only match Sky package for £63 a month and no less, came down to this offer:- Stick on my 10mb broadband
- XL TV pack
- Line Rental included
- M phone deal (Unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines and Virgin mobiles)
- Sports Pack + ESPN
- V+ HD Box
- Free Installation
This was with line rental included, so I can stop my mum paying £12.50 a month to BT and get her to put it towards this package, the Sky deal did not include line rental.
Other clincher was the HD side of things, which would have added another tenner a month anyway on my Sky deal.
I haven't taken this deal yet, but have had it noted on my file so will probably take it in next few days. ANyone think I could be doing better?0
