From the posts it seems like VM are playing hard ball with their customers and are less and less likely to negotiate on prices in the middle of a really bad recession. I have been getting discounts for the past 3 years, but I have started experienced their inflexible attitude too.
I thought you got a deal, from your previous post.

What package/services are you on ??
What exactly do you pay for each & discount do you get ??

I want to improve my cost, as my price has increased by £5/month since last year (£2.50/month increase last year & £2.50/month increase this year) !!

I'm on permanent retention deal from 2007 and currently have a loyalty discount of around £18/month.

I phoned them in June, querying why price of my 10Mb broadband shows as £20.50/month on my bill, when standard price for new customers (with phone line) is £12.50/month.

She didn't want to know & gave me some bull.

Virgin Media seem to pass on price increases of services to customers, but not price decreases !!

I rang virgin today - my present package is
    XL TV £24.50
    Telephone Line Rental £11.99
XL Phone (free evening and weekend calls) £7.95
    Sky Sports pack £ 20.50
    Loyalty Pack B B / Phone / T V C £ (- 22.50)
    V+HD box £0
    Broadband Size: M £20.50

I was getting a £7 discount on top of that, now reduced to £3.50 (and they made out they were doing me a favour giving me that) so I am paying £59.50 for a far inferior package. They said there is no way, not any way, I could get a better deal than that, end of story. I do not want calls unlimited, which is phone (L) , but if I switch to phone (S) the cost will actually go up because I lose my 'loyalty bonus'!! - I will pay more for less !!

I quoted the above to them from Rycall , and they said it is an absolute 100% lie, no way , ever , anyone gets a deal like that --- they said outright he is a liar.

Can I get a better deal than I am getting - how ?? I have seven days before I 'agree' to my new package with the £3.50 discount instead of the £7 discount --- if I do not take the £3.50 I lose all £7. Only alternative is to kick them out - and who needs that hassle ?
(I hate them, but they have me over a barrel)

Lol, i'll dig out my monthly bill tonight and take some photos.

  • Called the the CS team earlier today, we are currently on 10Mb broadband and weekend calls package with line rental for £25.99pm.

When I spoke to VM after mentioning a Talktalk offer they offered me 10Mb Broadband, evening and weekend calls for £21.94

Anyone had a better offer than this?
  • I've been with Virgin for nearly 4 years now. I've got my self a new flat (exciting times - been renting all my life but have now taken the plunge!). Would I be better off starting afresh as a new customer when I move in or transferring my account across (I'm assuming one can do this)?

I tried to get a similar deal for my brother whose contract was up in August, but they were very unhelpful. Looks like they are tightening up and starting to stick two fingers up at anyone who thinks is paying too much. My brother is now paying £16.25 for the small 2mb service. Think it's time to get him a BT line too and go over to O2 or plusnet vale broadband for £6/month as we are low users.

I was unimpressed with Virgin and their lack of desire to come up with a good deal, thus i didn't renew once my year was up. Now on 3 mobile broadband dongle for £10 for the biggest gb allowance.
Increased my mins on my mobile phone so have no landline.

Costs me a grand total of £38 a mnth for internet and mobile phone.
    A saving of about £15 a mnth! :T

I have BB and Phone with Virgin media.

My contract renews this month and the free Talk Anytime I got last year was going to cost me an extra £8 a month, which would put my bill up to £44. I rarely use the phone during the day so certainly wasn't going to pay an extra £8 a month for it.

Just phoned them and said I was gonna leave and move to TalkTalk (only for show of course I'd never join TT). The only freebee she offered was free evenings and weekend calls.

In the end, to save a bit extra, I also downsized my BB to 10Mb (was on 20Mb - nice but not necessary) and reduced my bill to £28.

Edit: As Saeed says above it seems they are being more tight-fisted with the deals than they used to be.

Is that INCLUDING the 11.99 phone line rental?
