Hope this is the right place to post this.......does anyone know who's the cheapest for the TV channels at the mo?

my brother's freeview box doesnt work cos it can't get a signal, and he can't have NTL cos it doesn't do cable in his area at the moment, so any ideas what he can do to get more than BBC1,2, ITV & Ch4?

he doesn't want BroadBand cos he hasn't got a computer, and he's not fussed about a landline either....he just wants a cheap TV package

    thanx

Sky does seem about the best but at £15 per month I dont think it is cheap - thats £180 per year afterall. You are likely to be locked in for at least a year.

Maybe you should explore some signal boosting so that you can get freeview I had to have my signal poosted but it involved buying a box for about £40 and that was a few years ago. If signal boosting is out you should also check if the digital coverage is due to be extended soon so you can switch to a digibox in a year or so.

    goodluck

Buy a second hand sky box and dish (about £50), and get a freesat card for £20 enabling him to watch equivalent to freeview channels for a one-off payment.

No tie in or anything. (although been with them a few years anyway)

Had the deal on my own package since last august, so thought i'd check mum and dad's bill and found paying much more. plus they'd been having a problem with a continuous error on the bill which customer services/billing kept saying they'd correct which they never did (although they did keep amending the bill for overcharging).

sorted the whole lot in one phone call (including error), no need for threats of cancellation, arguements or anything.

Nice chap in customer relations basically said if you don't ask you don't get, and also if you know someone's getting a good deal just phone up and say my mate/mum/etc are getting X and i'd like it too.

so now they've got better than me, so i'm phoning to say my mum's got this and i'd like it too.

Could only do the deal on phone for 3 months as rebranding to virgin media soon so should be some deals on phone packages, chappie told me to ring back in a couple of months and see what else i could get.

They're also doing offers on mobile phones and rolling out a drive box (like sky+), Drive box not available in all areas yet so not being publicised

    Hi peskie pixie

did you manage to get the same deal as your mum?
  • Thanks everyone for their advice on this.

I was on the 2MB for £17.99 package which has just finished its 12 month contract.

Tried ringing "thinking of leaving?" and got fed up of holding, so tried "change your package" and got through very quickly.

me: Can you tell me what speed of broadband I'm currently on?
    NTL: 2MB
me: Really? And am I using that much, because I rarely download anything? Have you got anything smaller?
NTL: We don't have anything smaller, but we can charge you less instead if you like - how about £9.99 for the next 6 months?
me: Could you? Lovely - thanks! *grins*

I just phoned NTL on 150 change package and got straight through. Cancelled my tv package and she said ok we cut it down to basic and it will be free just like free view. Complained about there pricing and said I pay £25 for unlimited 24 phone and £17.99 for broadband and they offer packages for much less. So she gave me broadband £9.99 and phone £13.50 a month. I didn't threating to switch or anything. I just quoted from the mailing they sent me saying prices and products are the same for all our customers.
  • If you phone up and take up an offer from them, are you tied in for 12 months?

+ Do you have to be out of contract to get the discounts?

i just got off the phone with Cust Relations and this is what I have been offered:

    Family Pack TV- normally £19.50
Telephone Line Rental - normaly £11.00
    Talk Unlimited 24 - normally £25.00
    Zee TV - normally £8.00

for a grand total of £30 per month for the next 6 months, ring back after this to get something more long term. I was paying £38.50 per month without the Talk Unlimited 24. Saving £33.50 per month on the normal price for all of the above. :rotfl: :T  :j

Also I was informed that with the merger of NTL/Telewest and Virgin, there should be a lot more offers for Broadband with regards to free modems/routers etc.. I was told to wait a few weeks to see what the actual offers are and then ring back.

Does anyone think I can do any better?
