phone that 0800 number quoted above and select option 2, just ask them if they can do something better for you, if they can't because you're tied in they will tell you so, if you don't mention it they might sort you out.

Also a tip. NTL have changed their numbers to 0845 how'ever use there freephone number for sales and let them put you through unless you already have free local and national calls.

Am I right in thinking that 2mb is being upgraded to 4mb for free soon?

Yes, during June all 2MB customers will have their download speed increased to 4MB with no cap on downloads. Probably best to get any haggling done asap, if on 2MB. Which reminds me to get my rear end in gear - I'm paying full price again after my 6 month offer expired - £24.99. The shame.... :embarasse

This may be free, but are you then going to be tied into a 12 month contract? As I stated before, when I was upgraded to 2.2mb for free in October, the small print stated that I would be tied into a 12 month contract as from then!

No, this is a free upgrade for all 2MB customers - it doesn't constitute a new contract, as far as I can see. I may be wrong ?

clayts, the reason I asked was because in October 2005 (I had joined broadband in July) I was offered FREE upgrade from 1mb to 2mb which I did, but the small print stated that I would be in a 12 month contract from time of upgrading!

This is a way that they can keep their customers for a further 12 months and not be able to take up offers elsewhere. Since finding out that you can get broadband deals which include line rental (thus not having that extra on top of my £24.99 a month package) which is appealing, and cheaper!

However, I am stuck until October now and unable to go elswhere for a better deal.

Ah, I understand. No sadly in your case you upgraded to a new tariff, rather than benefitted from a speed uplift by NTL (folks previously on 750K were uplifted to 2MB by NTL automatically) - hence, they stuck you on a new contract it seems, the cheeky blighters - sorry an' all :(

i have the 1mb broadband package from ntl (£9.99 for 12 months) and my contract ends on the 3rd of july meaning i can't phone to cancel my contract, and possibly get a better offer, until after the 3rd of june. i was just wondering do you think i'll be able to get an upgrade to the 4mb package (maybe a little cheaper than its advertised for) rather than just being upgraded to the 2mb package as standard? or could i just get upgraded to the 2mb package and then call back at a later date to get the automatic uplift to 4mb? any thoughts would be appreciated.
