i have the same issue as Wookie_the_cookie, although VM told me that £26 for XL broadband is only applicable if you take phone as well, otherwise it is £37. I tried to haggle and they did couldnt offer any reduction on my broadband price. I also gave them a month's notice and they were happy to accept that.

Strange, because when i attempted to buy BB L for £16 a month (first 12months) as a new customer, there was no mention of phone line, even used their live chat, and they said price was EXCLUSIVE of phone line.

So whats to stop me disconnecting, then reconnecting (plus i get a free wireless router (which i can flog on ebay), £10 online discount). Seems like VM is employing 'jobs worths' now in retentions.

Hmmm new thing to try today....will see how things get on.

    Hi
This is my latest with Virgin Media:

    Was on:
    Tel line rental £11
    Talk unlim £7.95
    Phone & BB saving £-9
TU for price of TEW Bonus £-4.50
    TV size L £0
    Broadband L £25

Then the special offer period finished and everything was as above plus £11.50 for TV L.
I called them to ask for a better deal, but the call centre in India told me that they couldn't do anything better. I don't use the TV service at all but was told to keep it as it worked out cheaper with the TV than it would without it. I was pretty peeved so called their disconnection department in the UK. I have now been offered the same package I was on but with the basic TV, but better telephone, for a much cheaper price:

Talk unlimited telephone inc line rental (free landline calls any time up to 60mins) PLUS talk mobile and talk international (cheaper mobile and int calls)
    Broadband L (10Mb)
Basic TV package (35 free channels)
    TOTAL: £29.24

I'm rather pleased with that, what does everyone else think?

So if you're not getting the deal you want then tell them you're leaving so you speak to someone in the UK who can sort things out for you.

    HTH

Not bad padzster but the talk mobile and talk international don't really make calls very cheap, merely less extortionate.

the likes of 1899 are still cheaper in most cases, even after they've paid Virgin's surcharge. No 7p connection charge for a start and they haven't abolished cheap weekend prices like Virgin.

I was paying £10/month for broadband M till price hike to £18. I tried a few weeks ago to renegotiate another 12 months at £10 but Virgin wouldn't budge.

I'm happy with 2mb level and am NOT interested in Tv packages of any sort, or Fixed telephone lines.

I want basic office/home level broadband, 2mb is ample.
And I have an excellent mobile telephone package.

Only offered package of broadband m and telephone line at £15.50 a month. I don't want a telephone ...thats why I'm with virgin a cable company, I have ample mobile minutes on my mobile.

So I put them on 30days disconnection and have booked for new reconection the same day on the NEW offer of broadband m for £9/month plus £30 connection. I could have even saved the £30 reconection fee if I'd opted for self installation.....but I opted for max hassle free and saved £53 ish guaranteed.

Thought about recommend my girlfried as the "New" customer to take advantage of £50 refferal reward but that would be greedy..lol
Saving £84 -£30 over the year but possibly gain a wireless router and new cable modem.

Next to no inconvenience and £80 ish saved....result.

If Virgin were not as stupid or pig headed they might have saved themeselves some hassle.....ha ha!

No hassle/interruption for me all nicely arranged for new installation.

    Virgin....they aint any longer...ha ha!

I have had a nightmare with VM. I only have the BB having been with Blueyonder when it first came out. Last year I wanted to leave and they offered me the 20meg broadband for £27 a month and said I could have it for as long as I wanted. They then suddenly increased my bill 4 months ago to £37.

I rang them 5 times (spending over 30mins on the phone) in that period and everytime they assured me they made a mistake and would refund the money and revert the bill back to £27.

I then got a letter saying they had made a mistake and been undercharging me and would correct it. I of course called and said it wasnt a mistake and that this is what I was offered!

Every time I spoke to someone they gave me a different story and said it would be sorted. The "notes" on the system contradicted what I had been told and noted down.

Anyway I went through to retention last night and they stuck to their guns however someone was at least straight up and honest with me. Apparently they dont offer the discount anymore and could no way offer me the service saying it was only a 12 month offer (which wasnt what I was told).

What he could offer me was a discount to £34. Apparently they want to encourage people to take more services from them. The more services you take the better deals they give. So if I take a phoneline and the broadband XL the total I pay is £32. If I also go to ebilling its an extra £1 discount...so £31. I decided against that as it would put me on a new 1 year contract.

Ive stayed on as the service/speed I get is great but I am shopping around. Looking into 02 bb as im a customer so £15 for upto 20meg sounds pretty damn good to me.

well i have been an ntl/virgin customer for over 10 years and my services will be ending tomorrow as the 2 for £20 package i am supposed to be on is now costing me £30.50! No one has contacted me from customer services asking me to stay or trying to offer me any new deals and when i did ask for even the 2 for £25 package -for the exact same service i am currently on, i was denied it telling me it is for 'new customers only' so there you go!

    Hi Everyone,
Know Martin has said this on numerous occasions, but please if you want to cut your home phone/broadband/tv bill and are with Virgin, phone up and ask for a discount, we said we were going to have to cancel because we couldn't afford the £48 bill per month now,and we were put through to the disconnections dept who gave us a deal £21 per month a huge saving and the only thing we were compromising on was we went to the basic TV package, which we were prepared to do as you still get the basics. But I am sure if you wanted to stay with your current package you would be able to get a deal.
Good Luck and be Brave and you could Save!!:D

I have just cancelled my Virgin media package. I had BB £18, line rental £11 and free tv. Although my bills were still coming to £42 a month. i WAS TOLD DEALS ONLY FOR NEW CUSTOMERS. So I have cancelled as off the 4th of July. Now they are falling over themselves to keep me. They have phoned me up begging me to stay and offering me package deals. I was offered BB, the free tv plus family pack and unlimited calls 24/7. I have turned it down as after a year they would no doubt bump up the package price again and I would want to leave again. They can do offers through retentions so they are lying when they say no offers. They are even posting me letters asking me to phone and see what they can offer me. I was a great lover of Virgin for many years. I have always had my mobile phone with them. The price increases just lately and there attitude has made me leave.

We've been with Virgin since August last year and have been paying £21 a month for 2mb broadband and home phone (free 01/02 calls, 24/7). Virgin have now offered us the same deal for the next 12 months if we have the TV service installed - the XL package for the first month at £23 and if we don't want to keep it then we revert to the medium TV for free and continue paying just £21 a month. Do you think that sounds like a good deal and has anyone else been offered something similar?
    Cheers

today we decided to cancel virgin after lots of problems with set top box freezing ,loss of channel guides, only to be told we have got 6 months to run on our contract( if we wanted to cancel now it would cost £169 ). we moved in dec last year and didnt realise that meant a new contract not a change of address... Any advice please
