  • I have just rung Virgin Media about the prices we are paying. We currently pay £18 for broadband size M. On the Virgin media website it has the following info:
Broadband prices are for 12 months when you take Virgin Phone. Broadband Size: M (up to 2Mb) is £4.50 a month, Broadband Size L: (up to 4Mb) is £11.50 a month, Broadband Size: XL (up to 20Mb) is £23.50 a month. Standard monthly prices (currently up to 2Mb is £9, up to 4 Mb is £16, up to 20Mb is £28) apply thereafter.
Told that this was for new customers only, pointed out that it says
"currently up to 2Mb is £9, up to 4 Mb is £16, up to 20Mb is £28) apply thereafter." - where does what we are charged fit into this?
From next month we will be charged £9 for our broadband size M!
Not sure how long this will last from reading the posts on this site.
On the monthly bill we are charged £1.75 for Voicemail which it turns out should be free, voicemail + is £1.75, so this is being changed to £0.00, I don't know how long this has being going on.
Are the call centres based outside of the U.K, had trouble understanding the 2 people I spoke to (got cut off the first time!)

From the end of this month (January), Virgin Media intend on removing the ability to apply or reapply for special deals like this from their customers to bring more ‘structure’ to their charges and policies. They are pulling back on any flexibility they may have on enticing customers to stay with them. I for one have decided that if they do this they are not worthy of my custom any more. I would therefore like to raise awareness to this and take as many customers as possible with me when I go.
    Get a lifetime deal.

  • Read through all that, still sounds like rumour mongering and at the end of the day have only just negotiated £37pm for L Broadband, Phone and XL tv inc V+ so more than happy even if I only get to keep it at that price for the next 12mths as has been agreed and confirmed in writing.

Ok got broadband speed increase wrong but still pretty rapid and more than enough for my needs.

Not any more... They're clamping down on all that stuff. These deals were nearly a year ago.

I guess I've just missed out. Well I can't do any more than leave if they don't give me what I want.

They are still doing them. A colleague wanted to add TV onto the phone and broadband service they already took, and a deal was done for them substantially below any published prices.

Have many people actually been told that they can no longer have their deal. We phoned up a couple of weeks ago and they said it was no problem to reapply the deal (however they still messed it up again )

Is it just people with broadband only who have to keep phoning every three months? We were told if we took another service they could apply deals for longer?
  • I'm paying £25,00 for 4 mb broadband, 20.50 for tv packageand £18.00 for sky sports, less a £9.50 discount cos I complained about the sky sports about a year ago. Total paid £54.00 per month. Spoke to them yesterday, and they said they wouldn't discount it any further.

Any advice, or should I just make the effort to leave?

  • Did you definitely speak to retentions? (option for cancelling your Virgin account).

If yuo speak to the sales people they wont budge admittedly.

If no luck with retentions then leave it a few hours then call back and hope to get someone else more reasonable.

Certainly sounds like you are paying well over the odds for what you have compared to me.
  • Thanks Spud Gunner. It was retentions I spoke to.

I'll give it a try later, but I suspect that they've written the conversation on their system.
    I'll update later.
