Ok this is my recent experience of Virgin Media. I was on a very good deal with NTL so when Virgin took over i called them up to confirm the tariff im being charged for phone, BB and tv. It all looked good especially considering the person upgraded my BB to L (4mb) for no extra charge. So for two months in a row i got the better deal - they would charge me extra but also include a credit discount so still worked out at the same price. I was now getting M phone, L BB and M TV for £25-26.
However last 2 bills I have found higher than normal. I didn't think much of it lsat month cos it was pro-rata etc with Virgin changing the billing date etc which they sent a communication out to all there customers. But this month once again it was high and when i looked at the bill i noticed i was no longer getting the discount applied and was being charged approx £40 so i phoned them up this morning and insisted the discount should be applied for last 2 invoices as I was not informed of the rate to be changed etc but she simply wouldn't budge. So i downgraded my BB to M again (im not fussed about the extra speed) and told her I don't want the TV and how much would i get it for...she said £29 and i get the TV free - so thats £11 for phone and £18 for BB..I asked for discount and was given none. So basically this lass was not budging at all - kinna makes you wanna threaten to leave (and ive been wiv em for 10 yrs or so)
Anyhow went on there website in the afternoon and saw the bundle offer of £20/month for phone and BB, just phoned them up and guess what..got a really plesant lady this time and amended the tariff to £20/month from the £29/month for the exact same package. I even asked that i now loose the TV and she said no..you still get to keep that too - ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON.
I then asked to get put through to Sales as I want to get BB only at a new address. I'm interested in the £10/month deal but wanted to get the £25 installation charge waived as im an existing customer elsewhere but got no look - so i didnt bother signing up just yet for that, thinking of trying again ;-)

Virgin Media lose 70,000 customers
Aug 9 2007 by Alistair Houghton, Liverpool Daily Post
VIRGIN Media has revealed the impact of its row with BSkyB after cable and broadband customer numbers fell by 70,000 in the quarter to June 30.
The group, which has well in excess of 100,000 television, phone and broadband customers in Merseyside, estimated 40,000 of the subscribers were lost because of Sky’s removal of its basic channels from the Virgin Media television platform on March 1.
The two companies failed to agree terms on pricing for the channels, including Sky One and Sky News, but Virgin said yesterday it expected the impact of the row to be contained within the second quarter.
Virgin, which has about 2,000 employees in Merseyside, has sought to bolster its own content offering with initiatives including a partnership with sports broadcaster Setanta.
Virgin’s customer base stood at 4.7m at the end of June 30, down 70,300 on the previous quarter and causing consumer revenues to fall to £619.3m from £637.3m reported for the first quarter this year.
The company, formed from mergers involving Telewest, NTL and Virgin Mobile, said it remained the UK’s largest residential broadband supplier, with 3.5m subscribers.
BT has around 3.8m broadband customers, but an estimated 700,000 of those are from the business sector.
Fixed-line telephone subscriber losses in the quarter were 56,900, which was an improvement on the 63,400 reverse seen in the first quarter.
Virgin said it had changed the way it markets and sells its telephone packages, in an effort to reverse the recent poor performance of the operation.
Overall, the group posted operating profits of £3m, against operating losses of £15.3m a year ago.
Virgin Media chief executive Steve Burch said: “The second-quarter results show encouraging broadband and mobile contract growth, a resilient performance by our TV business and signs that our fixed line telephony business is starting to react to renewed management focus.”
On Tuesday, Virgin Media said it had given potential bidders more time to put together their takeover plans after receiving “strong” interest in a possible deal for the firm.
A month ago, Virgin said it had received a takeover offer for the business, a £5.5bn move which analysts say is thought to have come from private equity firm Carlyle.

What a wonderful thread this is!
Just got my bill this morning - over £50 and only 11.00 of that is for the phone.
Called Virgin and took off my TV pack (get in all now on Freeview now anyway) and got my Broadband reduced too.
So I am now on telephone and Broadband for the sum of £20.00 a month - and immediate savinng of 17.50 per month and it isn't even 9:00am yet.
Hurrah! The best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -
Can anybody suggest a ISP that offers a student/9 month contract?
I've ended my contract with Virgin Media and had to pay £49 cancellation fee as a result. If i return to them, I am guaranteed my money back. However, returning to them leaves me with the same dillema next year when I graduate.
I know Telewest and BT used to do student accounts in 2004, but cannot find any offers now.
Thanks!0 -
Hi, i am new
I currently have NTL package with BB, TV, telephone and mobile for £40.
I am happy with this package however after looking at other posts about cutting mortgages etc i realise i need to cut my monthly expenditure and try to reduce my mortgage!:)
I dont neccessarily need the tv or telephone, would be happy with broadband and mobile as its 300 mins and texts for extra £10 which is great!:)
is it possible just to have mobile and bb?
thanks Katie0 -

I've been a NTL/VM customer for 5 years now. I just been onto them as I'm paying £55 pcm for size XL TV, size M Broadband (2Mb) and size L phone (free eve & wknd calls).
My wife rang first and was told "no deals, do you want cutting off now"! I rang 20 minutes later, having spoken to Sky to get some comparable prices and, hey-presto(!), VM have given me the same deal I have now but with size L broadband (4Mb) for £35 pcm. That's a saving of £240 per year. If you are a NTL/VM customer there is nothing to lose in trying to get a better deal ...0 -
Is there really a cancellation fee to suspend the BB service with Virgin if thats all you have with them?0
