Hi
I have just did a speed test on my bb connection(i'm with virgin media ) and the results were upstream can any one explain what that means please.I pay £17.99 per month.
You should get a download speed and an upload speed. upload/upstream means the speed you send info as opposed to download which is the speed you receive info. Download speeds and what are quoted when you get a BB connection i.e 20/10/4/2/ meg would be the download speed
Try this site, i have found it to be the most reliable for speed testing although you may have to try a few of the pyramids (go to the site to see what i mean) http://www.speedtest.net/Never pass up the opportunity to take a pee!:p0 -
HI
I've been reading this fourm, and decided that i should phone virgin media up. Which i did, however, my response was completely different.
I signed up for the 3 for £30 deal in June which consisted of
Large TV
Medium BB
Medium Telephone
So when i rang up to delete my packages or cancel it, their repsonse was that, i 'verbally signed up for a 12 month contract' and that i would have to pay for the remaining months if i cancelled.
I'm outragged at this , as i didn't know that i was signing up to a contract which i didn't know about. I think this is their cunning way to keep customers.
Can anyone help me???
I wanted the deal where i wanted Medium BB, XL TV, unlimited phone calls and V+ box, but they quoted me over £49 plus £150 V+ installation fee.

Even if ou signed over phone , they must have sent you the contract. It is mentioned there.
The deals mentioned above are for existing customer who are out of their contract. You can still try but they know that you are bound by a contract so they are not oblige to goive u better deal.
Anyways good luck and keep posted0 -
I am currently on the following:
TV: XL
Broadband: L
Phone: L
For £35 or £36 a month.
How much extra are they likely to charge me if I upgrade the broadband to XL?
you should be able to get better than that. I have XL TV, M Broadband, Anytime phone, v+ box and basic box for £35pm0 -
Hi,
im just doing some investigating for friend...
he lives in a rented flat with no phone line. He told me yesterday that he has just signed a new mobile contract with O2 for £25 per month. I think that is a lot seeing as he does not use his phone much and thought he could probably get it lower with somebody else and get broadband/ tv in as well. Luckily he has 30 days to change his mind.
So my questions are:
1) Can he get broadband without a phone line?
2) Is there a package with virgin that will let him do this?
3) For somebody who is not too good at arguing his case, what is the best outcome he is likely to get regarding bb\mobile\tv etc?
thanks0 -
I have the following with VM
XL phone (incl talk unlimited & caller ID)
L BB(4mg)
XL TV
Additional set top box
I have recently managed to negotiate the price down to £67/month, or the same package for £51 month which would require signing new 12 month contract. Rang them again today and said I would leave, but they couldnt give me a better deal. Not sure whether to sign up and just try to get something extra thrown in with the deal, as this already seems quite good. Has anyone managed to get the same bundle any cheaper?0 -

1) Can he get broadband without a phone line?
Yes visit Virgingmedia website and see if they provide ion that postcode
2) Is there a package with virgin that will let him do this?
Yes you can take but ideally you should look at virgin site as the title of this thread says cut your cost this applies mainly for existing customer
3) For somebody who is not too good at arguing his case, what is the best outcome he is likely to get regarding bb\mobile\tv etc?
not much options i am aware of except quidco or refer a afrnd that will save upto £55ish to ur frnd. if u want I or anyone else can recommend you but this statement should appear in referral section.
If you want a cheaper phone you can take BB from virgin and take voip phone from Vonage. If you need more info on voip thingy pm me or search or search on google.0 -

There's cheaper options out there than Vonage - check out all the info on the forum
I just get broadband from virgin 20mb (currently paying half price) and my phone set up is a regular cordless phone plugged into a SPA1001 which is then plugged into the router, I use voipbusterpro on line 1 for outgoing and coms.com on line 2 for incoming
Voipbusterpro is 10euros plus tax for the year, and you get 5euros of that as credit, then calls to all the counties on the frontpage of their website cost 3.9euro cents a call, so if u don't phone any other numbers you would get approx 125 call out of the 5 euros, if you use saynoto0870 you hopefully shouldnt have to call any expensive numbers, so if your a low user like me this would probably last the whole year, approx 10 calls a month, if you run out u can just add some more credit
There are a few providers out there that offer a free incoming number, I have tried a few, coms.com seems to work the best for me, I have a leeds number with voicemail, if someone leaves a message an audio file is emailed to me
I find this is the best and cheapest set up for me, a low user, might not be the easiest though, and there's the initial outlay of an ATA. Check out the forums for the best set up for you.
With the exchange rate I think it cost me less than £975p a month

I meant to give an example and I must admit that I am not uptodate on cheapest voip provider. However they are still cheaper than virgin.
I prefer same number for outgoing and incoming calls. so my friend can call me back if they say a missed call, rather having to remember 2 numbers.
I will do this search once coming back from holidays but thanks for info.0 -
I was paying £40 plus for Broadband 4 Meg and Telephone.
I rang the free number 501, listened to the options and chose Treminate Contract.
I explained to the guy that I had been with NTL/Virgin for about four years and I was concerned about my £40 plus bills,
Without hesitation and seemingly unconcerned, he said lets have a look at your present package, asked me how much I used the phone, then without any hesitation he offered me 4 Meg Broadband and telephone included for £27 per month. He said I would start a new 12 month contract ASAP.
It seems as though they are willing to let you carry on paying £40 plus as long as you are willing to do so.
It was no hassle at all and I got the impression that if anyone was happy with their old contract they would not be ringing you.
Honestly it was easy you must do it.
Another happy saver.(g)0
