  • I sent 4 Orange SPV phones to Cash4phones. I received an email a few days later saying none of them would power on and none of them would charge up. Cash4phones offered to return them to me or recycle them but with no payment. I called them and explained I'd charged all 4 and tested them myself before sending. They said they would re-check. I received a call later that day saying they'd regraded the phones and they did work after all. I received a cheque a week later.

A few days ago, I sent another 4 Orange SPV phones to Cash4phones. I again charged them and tested them before sending them off. Guess what happened ? I received an email saying none of the would power on and none of them would charge up. I rang them, they said they'd re-check. I received a call later that day saying they'd regraded the phones and they did work after all. I'm waiting for my cheque...

Now, I can understand that mistakes can happen and that phones can go wrong between sending them off and Cash4phones receiving them. But all 4 at once ? And with the same fault ? Not only that, but with both batches of 4 phones ? How unlikely is that ....?

Are Cash4phones deliberately failing every phone they receive and only bothering to pay out for those who's owners ring them up to complain ? Who knows. You decide.

Sell them (and send them) individually on the CEX website - not their shops. Almost invariably pay more than anyone else and they send freepaid envelopes. Do one per phone and get certificates of posting for each one (free). Provided they cost less than about £41/2 each you can claim from Royal Mail if they don't arrive.

Just when I was about to rant about cash4phones i read your post!

I sent off an iphone 4g 16gb, as they seemed reputable, and offered the best value.

Their offer was £260, and I got a response today stating "Excessive wear and tear".

Of course I have rejected their measely new offer, and await the return of my phone, hopefully in the same condition it was sent, in so that I could take a photo of it, and send off a complaint to refund the postage I have to pay for its return.

I will post an update if anyone is interested in my progress.
  • I see that vodafone have a mobile recycling service and they are offering a good price for my Nokia N8 - I am tempted to presume that as they are part of Vodafone that they will be a reputable company but has anyone used this service?
  • I used Mobile Phone Exchange to sell my old Blackberry Curve 8900.

Cash converters told me they would give me £20... rubbish.
I asked at CEX after being told online I would get £65 and they told me they couldnt buy it because of a tiny chip of black on the phone case!? Ridiculous.

So I went to Mobile Phone Exchange and they offered my £51 for just my phone. I asked for the jiffy bag, sent it a week later freepost with proof of posting and about 4 days later they received my phone and offered the full price of £51 pound which they quoted.

Payment was received the next day. I have no complaints, they were brilliant for me!

  • Sent mine to Mobile Phone Xchange after they quoted me the highest price £34 for an old used phone. However when they received it they said screen had excessive wear and buttons not working and would only pay £12 . Was fine when I posted it, to return it it would cost up to £10. Wouldn't use this company again. Used Mazuma in the past no problems prompt payment, still waiting from Mobile Phone Xchange 10 days later.
  • I've used Digirecycle.com in the past. Specialise in all small digital electronic goods, including phones and items that are faulty. Acknowledged on day of receipt and paid within 7 days.
  • It was with some trepidation that I sent my phone in to Mobile Phone Xchange but they were offering the most dosh for my old Blackberry Curve (£49 when next best offer was £40) After reading the comments about the rubbish thin envelope sent (it was rubbish and thin!) I decided to box my phone up and bubble wrapped it too And I sent it Special Delivery rather than freepost which cost me £5 but I decided it would be money well spent.
I got my acknowledgement email within 2 days of posting and they said they'd be transferring the full amount the next day - and they did!:T
So I'm a happy customer even though it did cost me £5 to send it, but I thought better that than being messed about!

I have just had a horrible experience from this company and I feel so angry, I'm making it my mission to stop anyone else using them. I did a search for the best price for my iPhone 3GS 32GB, and found Mobile Phone XChange to be one of the top payers (£113). I have used Envirofone and Mazuma before but they were offering much less this time around, so thought I'd give these guys a try. I checked on their site which just says 'as long as it's in full working order' which it is, it's fine considering it's 2 years old, there's a few minor scratches here and there but it works perfectly well. They sent me the padded envelope quickly which I then paid £5.60 to send the phone back to them via special delivery. Today I received an email from them offering me just £49 as according to them the phone is 'damaged or cracked' and they attached a picture of the corner of my phone where the casing is a little bit wider on the corner and not quite flush with the rest. That's it. For that they wanted to drop from £113 to £49. And by the way I certainly don't remember ever seeing that case issue, so I'm even suspecting that they did this themselves. Think about it, who takes pictures of their own phone from all angles just incase the recycling company say they've found damage on it. This never occurd to me as I didn't think there was any damage.
So I called them and said if that really is their offer price then just send it back and I'll use someone else, so they put me on hold for a few minutes then came back and said 'as a gesture of goodwill we'll offer you £80!' I said how is that goodwill when you originally offered me £113? They said that's their final offer, so I said forget it send it back to me, and that's when they came out with a corker. 'If you want us to send it back we'll charge you £10 admin fee'! ADMIN FEE? For what, putting it into an envelope? So they had me over a barrell, I wasn't prepared to pay an admin fee (which they assured me is on their website which after looking really hard I did find, but it's certainly not easy to find that info at all unless you really are looking for it). I begrudgingly had to accept the £80 offer, or it would've cost me £10, plus another lot of special delivery to send it to another company, it just wasn't worth it. This company should be avoided at all costs, they offer you a good price just to reel you in, then offer a lot less and if you don't like it they'll charge you £10 to get your own property back. It's nothing short of a scam. I'm fuming, I've not felt this angry about dealing with a company for a long long time, and believe me I've dealt with some bad company's. DO NOT DEAL WITH MOBILE PHONE XCHANGE!
