  • Been paying 34ppl with flogas

renewal letter 68ppl if I enter into a contract or 75 ppl and a delivery charge of £50 if I do t

Calor offered 49ppl fixed for 12 months

flogas as when I put in neighbours house for a new quote 53ppl fixed for 12 month 2 year contract so can increase by up to 20ppl in year 2 I think

offered 54ppl on phone from flogas fixed for 2 years or the 49ppl year 1 with an increase of up to 20ppl In Year 2

not too sure what to do
infuriates me that loyalty not rewarded and to those who never switch or complain and just pay bills would have been stung.

tempting to buy some woodland and get one of the big outdoor burners that they use in the cold parts of northern America for heating

The initial prices quoted are reasonable, it's the year 2 increase of 20 ppl which is the killer as you can guarantee it will be applied. I've got this to come in January!!!
  • Think I've been shafted by Calor . Ready for moving house and asked current owners to get tank topped up so I don't have to rush sorting a supplier, they charged 84.5p / l. Think I'll be looking for a new supplier when we need another refill . When I originally asked the current owners Calor we charging 69p but that was 6 weeks or so ago.

I would imagine the current owners are on a variable rate at the end of their 2 years.
It would have been better for you to contact Calor yourself.
You will need to anyway as you will be liable for the years tank rental starting when you move in.
It starts over you see when they move out (theirs refunded to them)  and you will need to pay the years rental for you.

There is a part on the Calor site to declare yourself to them, even if you choose another firm Calor will still need to know about you as you cant leave a firm that does'nt know you exist in the first place.

Well, I wonder how the Unfair Contract Terms part of the Enterprise Act 2002 applies to what LPG suppliers do. Here's some guidance .... Group 12 (p57) is relevant if the previous owner was quoted a price ...and you are now being charged a different price?  https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/284426/oft311.pdf

Would I have to sign a contract in order to rent the tank?

Yes its their tank, not yours. So with LPG you sign a contract to exclusively buy gas form this or that LPG firm for 2 years.
If you dont want that firm and you switch to another then the new firm buys the tank from the existing.
So you always owe rent on the tank, its the firm your renting from that changes.

So your using Calors tank, you owe them rent.

You cant rent the tank and think you can get another firm to fill it.
At the end of the two years the contract rolls on but its the exclusive part that has finished, you can switch.

When you move into a property by default you are the customer of whoever's tank happens to be at the property.  You may be able to get an expensive fill on an out of contract price while you weigh up the LPG market, still have to pay that rental and when that gas is used its still Calor (in this case) who you will talk to about more gas or another firm if your switching.
  • Has anyone had any contact from your electric provider regarding the £100 grant for LPG and oil users.

So I move in next week and can't switch as I already have a tank full of Calor left by previous owner ? or could I shop around for a deal and switch but not get a top up for a few months? or could I stay with Calor for now without a contract and them just charge tank rental and switch once the tank is almost ready for filling?

I had a similar situation when I first moved  into my property. The previous owner was with Calor and had the tank filled not long before he sold. I told Calor said contract was with him, not me and I could choose who supplied me. I contracted with a local supplier. Nobody asked about the recent refill, because the previous owner had paid for it and he hadn’t include any additional wording in the sales contract referring to it. So as far as I was concerned, it was part of the sales price. That was the last I heard about it.
