The contract allows for a max 5ppl increase per year for transport & other reasons, plus the actual rise in the Platts Index (unlimited).
The total increase they have quoted is +37% which would mean as increase of between 21% and 37% for the Platts index, depending on how much of the 5ppl they have passed on (that is not stated in the letter).
BUT the contract also states that if the increase is due to the rise in the Platts index, then they will provide details of the Platts index which they have not done.
Therefore I would have to assume that the increase is all due to transport and other, and should have been limited to 5ppl, and so they are in breach of contract.
I am holding on the phone now to speak to them...
thanks

They just tried to fob me off. Exactly the tactics of Calor and the reason why we switched.
The lady on the helpline tried to tell me that there is no 5ppl limit, when there very clearly is.
She tried to say that the limit does not apply to section 8.2.3, but our contract states "We may increase (in a single step or series of steps) the price of LPG for the reasons listed at clauses 8.2.2 and 8.2.3 by no more than five pence per litre in any twelve month period”.
From this conversation I conclude that their Customer Service staff are told to lie, as a previous poster also stated.
She has promised a return phone call from a Manager within 24 to 48 hours from Monday. Too late - I have already emailed the Manager who signed the letter, and copied the MD. I have assumed the email format name.surname@flogas.co.uk and I will confirm later the outcome of this issue.

Complaints email address at Avanti: AvantigasUK.Complaints@avantigas.com
Advice:
- be clear what the problem is but also remain polite.
- Tell them exactly what they can do, that will solve your problem
- tell them you would like the issue resolved within, say, the next 7 days.
If 7 days passes and you are still unhappy contact the managing director of Avanti. His name is Dean Ewart, address:
UGI House, Gisborne Close, Staveley, Chesterfield, England, S43 3JT
All this and more is available on Avanti's website.
Let us know how you get on

Hi All,
new to this LPG game, but this thread has been the most informative thing I've found so far.
Just moved in to a rental and lumped with a tank currently owned by Avanti.. being new tenants we're currently free from any contract..so trying to weigh up our options...(we have about 28% still in the tank, so should probably get a move on)
thought I'd share what I've been offered so far, and see if anyone has some good advice or alternatives, as we're still looking round for a decent independent supplier in our neck of the woods (deep south of Cornwall)
So far this is what i've been offered from the big boys..
(not included standing charges - as landlord picks up the bill for that)
- started with Avanti seeing as it's their tank - who instantly sent me a contract in the post for this:
32 ppl 1st Year fixed (so far thhe best offer by far) / variable 2nd Year with max 3p increase every 6months for 'Operational Costs' ....which I'm guessing leaves the door open for additional (and probably hefty) increases 'subject to market'.
- Calor 38.4ppl 1st Year fixed / variable 2nd year with max increase of 2.5p - (*sure on the phone told for the whole year, but guy from FloGas told me to watch out as it could be per quarter? - yet to confirm from Calor..)
- FloGas 36ppl 1st Year fixed / variable 2nd year with max increase of 5p per 6 months
(although very wary of entertaining the idea of FloGas after reading on this forum)
ExtraGas 42.5p 1st Year fixed / variable (and apparently negotiable) 2nd Year with max increase of 3.5p per 6 months.
Would love to know who else I could use for this area.. JGas dont reach this far, Woldlink (who sounded promising) can't do us a deal as they use Avanti themselves.
If anyone has any helpful info would be most welcome - or if these figures help with your own comparisons then great..0 -
Hi all
I have recently moved back to a property but on gas bottles and sticking to bottles. we had a tank in a previous address with flogas. they are the worst company i have ever dealt with. we had two family members who were also with flogas and we were all paying different prices
we never used much and the usage was similar to other family members yet we paid 20p more a unit.
The customer service and people are terrible at flogas they do not care about loyalty. luckily we left that house and that was the only way to free ourselves from a cow boy company. Our family members moved to another supplier and are very happy with the service.
After reading pages of reviews from so many people it looks like they are still the same if not worse. we are staying in bottles and use a local firm. so far ok with bottles gas.0 -

That is the same price I accepted a couple of months ago. Barring a friendly local independent you will not do better. Even Woldlink gave me the same Avanti offer. It may be worth doing an hour's googling various search terms and a look at the yellow pages etc., advertising is often not their strongest suit.
So far my experience with Avanti has been OK .. but of course it seems to be month 13 when the problems start! We shall see.
BTW someone mentioned Trustpilot and Facebook .. Trustpilot for sure, but Facebook a waste of time because they simply delete any message they don't like.If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..0
