I *think* it's supposed to be 'confidential' to 'members only' ;)

    Maybe ring them and ask???

    :)

We've recently bought a property in N Wales (LL53 7** postcode) and are on LPG, the previous owners had a contract with Calor. We've had the usual pack through the post from Calor offering us:

42p fixed for 6 months, variable thereafter. Standing charge of 17.28p per day (£63 per year).

I've e mailed the usual suspects that deliver to this area for quotes and have received back the following:

    Avanti gave us two options:
    1. 37.7p fixed for 12 months. 5p increase cap in any 6 month period after that.
    2. 42p fixed for 2 years.
Standing charge is £66 per year.

    Extrafuel:
35p fixed for 12 months with option to fix again after that or go on standard variable rate (currently 40.29p). No mention of any caps on increases after 12 months though. Standing charge £60 per year.

    Flogas:
36p fixed for 12 months, 3.5p increase cap in year 2. Standing charge £60 per year. Plus they're offering £250 cashback.

The previous owners kindly left me the 1200 litre tank almost 80% full so I'm in no hurry to sign anything. I'm also not too sure how compliant my tank installation is so I think I'll get at least one of the above out for a site survey to see what they say.
What's the opinion on these prices, are they any good? This is my first experience with LPG so I'm not sure if they are decent, the Flogas quote seems to be at the top of the pile on price when the cashback is taken into account. What are they like for customer service?

'Customer' & 'Service' are two words that don't sit comfortably together where LPG suppliers are concerned.

You pays your money, takes your choice and then have two years to regret it.

Really it boils down to how much you think you can trust Flogas to stick to the deal they have offered. As you'll see if you go through the thread, Flogas do not have the best reputation, but in your case appear to be offering the best deal. If you use, for example, 2500 litres per year, their cash-back is worth an extra 5p per litre over 2 years and giving an equivalent current price of 31ppl.

With the 12 month cap and 2.5p maximum increase, this is a good deal, even taking into account the current low LPG wholesale prices.

If you do go for this deal, make sure you read the contract terms closely, it is not unknown to have clauses to enable further increases in 'unforeseen circumstances'

I have but post #2471 above suggested they were not taking on any more domestic customers at the moment. I will certainly be giving them a ring to check though.
How does it work with Woldlink, is that who my contract is with even though Flogas may do the actual delivery?

Edit: Just spotted post #2442, contract is with supplier, payment for gas is to Woldlink.
  • Just a quick update on our bulk supply.

In August 2014 we tied in again with Calor for a further 2 year period based on the service and a negotiated price along with a credit on each of our bills. The price of 36ppl is fixed through until the contract is up for renewal in August 2016. This equated to a decent price drop for us, and my neighbours all seem to be happy with the deal. There were offers from J-Gas and another supplier (name escapes me this now!), but despite repeated requests, Avanti never returned any of my calls (either direct to area rep, his secretary or his office!).

We have a very good relationship with the account manager at Calor, but price is king when it comes to renewal next year...!
