............Maybe we should have a sticky listing all of the independents? To keep the big boys from ripping us all off......
I try to keep an updated list of independents and what people post about them. But first there's a list of independents which post their prices (and which HateLPG uses for the very useful charts).
Transparent prices from independents

Sorry, I couldn't edit my previous post to add the link to HateLPG's post in 2011 on farmers' co-ops. It's here. If you 'Search this Thread' you'll find plenty more posts on the topic.0

This makes for very interesting reading, especially if you happen to be a Flogas customer who has unexpectedly heard from Calor:"The market leader in the sale of liquid propane gas (LPG) in the UK has been found vicariously liable for the infringement of database rights belonging to a rival.
The High Court ruled that the actions of two members of Calor Gas' (Calor) staff in misusing a list of customers that had been copied from a database belonging to Flogas Britain (Flogas) had been so "closely linked to the conduct of the business" that Calor itself should be held vicariously liable for database rights infringement."
See http://www.out-law.com/en/articles/2013/October/gas-company-vicariously-liable-for-database-rights-infringement-by-staff-/ for the full story.0 -
Well, it's that time of the year and I'm sure prices will soon start to climb once again
It would be interesting to hear if/when price rises start coming through.
And more especially, whether companies try to impose any "extraordinary" additional rises, citing the collapse of Ineos (Grangemouth) as a primary cause.0 -
Just out of my fixed period with Northern Energy, and lo and behold, I have been hit with a 3ppl increase, taking me to 46.7ppl. + vat
Rang to complain, and was told that refinery prices have been rising for the past four weeks, and there was nothing they could do.
Luckily I have just topped up so will not need to order for another 6/8 weeks, long may this mild weather hold out!0 -
Quick question, when people quote the ppl is this price excluding the dreaded VAT? I've just been offered 48ppl ex VAT fixed for 6 months variable thereafter with 16.9 ppd ex VAT standing charge from Calor. I'm in the Midlands area.
Cheers0 -

Suppliers quote LPG before VAT, which is at the reduced rate of 5% on domestic LPG (full info on HMRC website here).
Northern Energy / LPG Homeheat make a selling point that they pay the VAT, so the prices they quote are VAT-inclusive.
With your Calor contract you need to check out the maximum rise per 3/6 months. You'll find quite a bit about this on the forum!
Lots of suppliers in the Midlands - but you are in an unusual situation with your tanks.0 -
I'm always in an unusual situation ;-)
My contract states:-
The standing charge will not increase by an amount exceeding the rate of increase in the Retail Price index.
And the only other bit says if the gas price increase exceeds 3.5 ppl in any 3 month period I have the right to cancel by giving 42 days notice within 30 days of the price rise.
FYI my tank is 1200 litres and the uplift cost is £230+VAT0 -

Is this efficient and cheaper?
I am not sure whether bottles is cheaper than a tank. But given the capital costs of switching to other energy sources, I would imagine that sticking with gas is probably cheapest.
These days you can switch tank suppliers easily - and have a gadget fitted which automatically orders more gas when tank gets low.
My advice is for you to phone up Countrywide (0800 1691735) and Flogas (0800 574 574), and get quotes for a 2 year contract. My own experience is that I just saved > 35% (from 62.3p per litre down to 40p per litre) by calling up my existing supplier and signing a new 2 year contract.0 -
I've just had an email from a company called LPGUK. They say they cover every area of the Uk and they are also an independent supplier. Their current offer according to their email is 42.5p per litre and £100 off. Their website is www.lpguk.info - might be worth a look to see if the big boys have now at long last got some competition! :j0
