Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

I just put my postcode into the UKLPG site again ( just in case anyone new had started supplying here.......you never know:rotfl:) and unsurprisingly enough......the ONLY supplier listed is the one I already use ( that can charge me what they want until I change from LPG as I have no option to switch, as nobody else supplies here!).
So there are NO other options....except to switch heating systems and fuel type:rotfl:If it weren't for stress I'd have no energy at all. First rule of acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.;)
Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:0 -
once the trenches and hole is dug, how long does it normally take (once they are on site) for a domestic LPG underground tank installation?
would it be done in a day?
Easily!
It's not a direct comparison, but Calor have just fitted our above-ground one.
Concrete laid, trench dug, old pipe exposed beforehand. All their job involved was jointing to the new pipe (very quick - the two halves of the pipe were welded together in seconds flat), then craning the new tank in, and a bit of connecting up. Then some quick testing and commissioning, and all done.
Total time on site? Can't say for sure (tea may have been involved, together with a bit of waiting for the truck with the tank, and some manouvering the truck in), but I'd doubt there was 90min all in. Underground tank? Probably not a lot different, assuming the backfilling of the hole is left as your problem.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to finish filling this damn trench in... <sweat>
The new 1400l tank has arrived with ~90l in, apparently - the gauge reads about 5% - and the completed install paperwork automatically flags up for the first fill.0 -
A little belated I'm afraid, but here are September's prices.0

We are coming to end of 2 yr contract with Calor who had us up to 56p, but when pushed can now give us 46p fixed for 9 months to stay with them. Having phoned round suppliers in our area Lima & Flo Gas are cheapest at 41p p/l. Having seen many bad reviews of Flo Gas on Trustpilot I am tempted to try Lima. I have seen the August MSE posts about Lima and wondered if there is any updated opinion? My concerns would be reliability of delivery as they are not one of big suppliers and, as they track LPG price, lack of fixed period - is it better to fix? I am in Devon.
Thanks.
Just noticed Calor are offering £150 incentive if you sign up by 31st October which I thought might make it worth signing back with them... however just realised our 2yr contract with them ends 5th November!0 -

Did you try Albagas? They don't come up when I put our postcode into the uklpg site either, but they do deliver here.

Some info gleaned from Lima gas from questions I posed to them:
1. The fixed price of 44ppl that you quoted, is that including VAT?That is plus VAT @ 5% for domestic, this is current ppl on tracker basis fixed is 45ppl
2. How long is the fixed period for and what happens to the price after that period?
Normal fixed period is 6 months and we guarantee not to increase the price by more than 5ppl thereafter( though we have never needed to hike it that much)
3. You say you have a price tracking option, do you display the tracked prices and how often do you track them/change them?
Our tracker price is based on the refinery price to us and we change it monthly.
4. Do you have examples of past tracked prices?
2011 lowest 41p highest 44p. 2012 lowest 38ppl highest 48ppl. The majority of our customers opt for this as it comes down as well as up, it depends how often you fill and when you do but can be c=very economical for you.
It makes absolutely no difference to us, so you can choose whatever is best for you.
5. Is there a minimum usage amount related to prices?
We base this on circa 3000 litres per annum, what is your usage?
(BTW I told them I only use about1200 lt pa, they said they would honour the price on that usage.)
6. What is the top up amount for refilling the tank?
Normally we fill when customers are about 15% to 20% so normally around 100 litres
7. I assume I would have to enter a 2 year contract, is that correct?
All domestic contracts are for two years so yes that is correct.
I am tempted - hope ths helps others.0 -
Thanks for that Frankie. As no one posted any actual experience with Lima I called Calor again to see what their best deal was & I quoted the 41p for 9 months we had been quoted by Lima and Flo gas. Calor offered ... 46p +VAT per litre + £100 credit (this brings it down to equivalent of 41p per litre based on 3500 annual useage). I then pushed them on the 9 months and they agreed to fix for 12months on 2 yr contract. I am happy with that as they have been good suppliers for past few years and have put telemetry gizmo on tank as well as upgrading it free of charge. They base their offer on the best deal you say you have found which is worth remembering.0

Hi,
Just moved into a new house which has Bulk LPG tank and it's all new to me. Thanks to reading through this thread, hopefully I'm going into this a bit more informed. I don't know how much gas we'll go through, and the old owners don't have any records (used Macgas), but as we use it for heating and cooking I'm willing to estimate ~3000l/annum. Tank is 2000l and says 55% full so pressure isn't on yet but would like to get it sorted before winter really sets in.
Using the uklpg site I have a list of 4 main suppliers (JGAS, Macgas, Avanti & Calor) I was going to get some quotes from. But I'm looking for some independants around Edinburgh, thinking of albagaslpg and extrafuel, but any other local recommendations would be welcome.
PS: Tank is old and looks like it might not meet the COP1 req, I take it I don't tell anyone this and they can tell me after a site visit?
thanks.0 -
Hi guys,
I'm leaving a rented property with a lpg bulk tank. I have just been trying to find out from the supplier (Flogas) what happens about the excess gas left in the tank and I have been told that I have to pay for it and then let the next occupier have what's left for free. As this is currently 60% on the gauge a good month or three, which I was informed was worth £502 this not good news. It was suggested I try to sell it my landlord but I don't believe he is obliged to buy it, any help would be brilliant .0
