Training for the zombie apocalypse
I'm a huge Walking Dead fan and tomorrow I have a new gym induction when we'll sort out a training routine for me. My default position tends to be free weights/resistance machines/swimming, but I want to jazz it up a bit and make it fun. If you were thinking of training to survive the zombie apocalypse, what fitness…

Virgin Active - Costs? NHS discount?
I've just been reading through the forums and Martin's haggling and gym membership tips. I'm going to visit a Virgin Active on the 16/11/13 - I'm hoping to be offered an NHS discount and I was wondering if anyone else has an NHS discount with them and how much they pay? And if anyone has managed to negotiate a new cost and…

Season Tickets.
I don't know if this belongs in here but here goes, I have a season ticket for my football club, I have supported them for over 50 year, next season I will be 65 halfway through the season and the final half of the games should cost a lower rate to reflect this. However, when I tried to renew my season ticket I was told…

Haggling at the gym
Evening all, I'm looking to join a gym near me, and the options are LA Fitness, Topnotch and puregym. My question was whether people have had success is haggling on their membership? I used to work at Fitness First in Sydney and there wasn't actually much flexibility in what we could do. There would be promotions on from…

Reebok Step
I would like to buy a Reebok Step though the price on Amazon is about £74. Anyone able to get it for less? Also are there any website that lists gyms which are about to close as this would be a good way of buying some gym equipment. Regards, Garcon 6. P.S Also would like a BOSU.

Running kit advice - hydration backpack
I'm looking for advice on hydration backpacks. I find that I need water on runs over ten miles or even on shorter runs in the warmer weather otherwise I get headaches, but I'm fed up with carrying a water bottle. I'm looking at backpacks but they're mostly quite expensive. Are the expensive ones worth the money? I've found…

Lost gym motivation after 12 years-help!
I have been going to the gym for the last 12 years, 4 times a week without fail. It was a Virgin Active, and it very suddenly closed down on 20th December. I joined the local council gym -the only gym nearby that doesn't involve a drive. Since then my motivation to go has totally changed. OK, its not as 'nice' but would…

Sweatresistant phone armband for running
Hi there I usually just carry a cheap mp3 player when running, but since having got spotify premium I am starting to take my Galaxy S3 with me. I usually put it in the pocket of my gilet, but since the weather is getting warmer/drier, I will (hopefully) not be using it as much and don't have large enough pockets in my…

Best home cardio equipment
Hi, my partners rowing machine has given up the ghost so I am looking at replacing it with something I would use (I never got the hang of his rowing machine as there was something up with the foot straps and my feet kept falling out). I am inherently lazy and want minimum effort with maximum results so am looking for…

Cheap gym advice? Council gyms now run by Better??
Hi folks, I'm looking to join a local gym (I live in London E11) and I'd love your advice. Normally I'd have thought that the council run gyms were cheaper but it seems as if all the local council leisure services have been outsourced to Better. http://www.better.org.uk/ What I'd like is a gym with cardio machines,…

Advice about heart/activity monitor
I'm trying to build my stamina after an illness. I have a condition where my heart beats too fast. Not death defyingly fast but I do have to keep an eye when exercising so I'm after a gadget. :j:rotfl: (me exercising!) I'm after something waterproof that will record my heart rate accurately. I need to be able to use it in…

Pruhealth & Virgin Active
I've never been a gym goer as I've always worked out at home using p90x, Insanity and similar. However, 2 years of doing that fairly relentlessly has ruined my knees. Now I need to do something lower impact for the forseeable. Though the idea of gym and machines doesnt really appeal, swimming does. The nearest pool to me…

Aldi & Lidl
Aldi & Lidl are having sports wear in their stores next week. Both start on April 3rd. You have to shop carefully, but I've had some good stuff from both in the past.

Pre-half marathon meal?
Hi all, I'm running my first half marathon in a couple of weeks, and not sure what I need to eat before hand. While training, I do most of my runs in the afternoon/evening (because of work and other commitments), but this one will be at 10 am? Normally I'd have porridge for breakfast, reasonable lunch (eg baked potato and…

Ariel training, silks and what not, stab in the dark!
Wondering if anyone may possibly know if there are any Ariel training classes/ studios in the West Midlands? I tried some training towards it whilst in America over the summer and fell in love with it! I know it's a very difficult thing to learn so would love to actually start at a place that creates on the ground workouts…

Please suggest Trainers for Metafit, Body Combat™ etc.
My trusty K-Swiss tubes are going home, the tubes at the ball of each foot are coming of due to side to side nature of many exercises. I have been told that running shoes are not the best thing for side to side stuff and that tennis shoes may be better for my knees. Anyone got any suggestions?

Any recommendations for home treadmill?
Looking to buy a good treadmill for use at home. Folding would be good (but not essential as it is going in the garage). I'd like one that allows me the option to set a distance, monitor time/speed/distance, change the incline and has some sort of cushioning. I was looking to spend around £500-800, a finance option would…
