Running kit advice - hydration backpack

I'm looking for advice on hydration backpacks. I find that I need water on runs over ten miles or even on shorter runs in the warmer weather otherwise I get headaches, but I'm fed up with carrying a water bottle. I'm looking at backpacks but they're mostly quite expensive. Are the expensive ones worth the money? I've found a cheaper one in Decathlon for £17 which is a lot cheaper that the Camelbak ones I've seen. Anyone know if the Kalenji one is any good?

I have used a Camelbak in the past, but found that it is really important to keep it really really clean, otherwise you get a funny aftertaste. I was finding that I was having to spend some time on a Saturday night making sure it was ready for my long run on a Sunday morning!

I have since gone to using a belt with a bottle holder on it. I soon forget that I am wearing it, and it is much easier in terms of maintenance!
  • I got a Camelbak with my subscription to Runners World a couple of months ago. Might be worth looking at.
  • Thank you.

Are you just looking at something to hold a bladder? Go Outdoors have some decent hydration backpacks.

  • To hold a bladder yes, but must be suitable for running. I'll have a look, thanks.

I have a running backpack from Go Outdoors which does hold a bladder. Unlike my Camelbak, it holds more than a mobile phone and my front door key.

    Bit pricey though.
