Petplan
Hello everyone and hope you're all having a good new year so far. I have a rabbit and I'm looking to get him some insurance. Petplan are my first choice, but the one thing putting me off is that they seem to have a lot of unhappy customers. The reviews on Trustpilot are not encouraging, and taking a look at their Facebook…

Do reptiles make good pets?
My daughter has for a few years been saying she would like a reptile pet, either a snake or lizard. She's 19 and I know she would take good care of it, feed it, clean it out etc. I am wondering what they are like as pets? Are they responsive to their owners? Do they mind being handled and are they quite complicated to care…

Fleas
I treated our dog with Frontline nearly three weeks ago and he still has fleas and is continually scratching/biting/licking. I always used Frontline on our other dogs and never had a flea problem, but see that many people are saying Frontline doesn't work anymore. I am going to order some Advantage today, as that has very…

Cat flea treatment
Hi, I keep finding the odd flea or small amounts of flea dust on my cat! I have been using treatment from the vet regularly, but decided it was cheaper to buy frontline from the pharmacy. I found the odd flea so after treatment 4 weeks ago not stopping it completely I tried another brand from the pharmacy called…

Do cats miss their deceased companions?
We had to have Tasha PTS last week - only 12. We had had her since she was 2 and very much part of the household. We have a 4 yo male, Bob, and we are sure that in the fullness of time we will rehome another rescue. But does Bob miss Tasha ? Never the closest of friends but she was the boss.

Good pet insurance for older cats - recommendations please
I know that pet insurance does not cover existing conditions but I am looking for insurance for a few older cats. I do not really understand the difference between whole of life insurance and any other type of insurance. Can anyone please recommend pet insurance they think might be good for older cats. Thank you.

Free Feline Health Check
Have you got an old moggy ? Get it checked out for free. I've just been listening to a man on out local radio .... (Radio Merseyside) He was Professor of small animals at Liverpool Uni. They are looking for people with older cats, they're doing a study and are giving, free feline health checks. I was only half listening,…

Is my cat an Oscar winning actor? Or is he actually injured?
We went shopping 2 days ago leaving the cat home alone for about 2 hours. Come back and he's holding one of his front paws in the air and limping a bit. No obvious sign of injury so we thought maybe he just slept on it funny or jumped off the bed at a bad angle. My partner find the paw in the air too cute to resist so cat…

Aquarium downsize
With a new canine in the house, space has become Premium. When my big fish tank developed a slow leak, I realised it was time for a downsize. The main fish have all been rehomed, leaving just a few smaller types and my plants. Today I sourced a second hand Fluval tank on Gumtree. Went to see and it's good as new. Receipt…

Young cat died suddenly
My 4 year old, indoor cat died suddenly and without warning. Been going through my mind what happened as she did not display any signs of ill health or change in habits/breathing/eating. She ate her food as normal (hills science plan) and did her business in the morning without issues. Then a few hours later she went to…

How do you know when to say goodbye? (pts)
Hi everyone, just wondered if anyone could give some advice on when to say goodbye. My little dog is now 14 and 1/2 and seems to have aged dramatically since he was last at the vet in October for his vaccinations, I am thinking we are at/nearly at the stage to say goodbye but don't want to do it too soon. He has a lung…

Pets at home and guinea pig
I'm so annoyed. I went against my better judgement (I know, I know) and adopted a guinea pig from pets at home to go with my other boys. I go in there to buy the guinea nuggets as it's so local to me and for months I saw the same guinea all on his own in the adoption cages he's around a year old. I finally enquired about…

First Christmas without a pet
I'm not looking forward to Christmas this year. It's the first without my cat, she died in June after 19 years of being with us. When I put the tree up she always sniffed it and looked amazed. Also a neighbour has a tuxedo cat and it is getting a lovely winter coat on. I miss not seeing that this year. We buried tiggy in…

Should I get insurance?
Hi all, I've been reading plenty of online forums and talking to lots of other dog owners on the walks regarding pet insurance, and is it worth it? A lot have said not to bother because from their experiences the insurance companies never paid out anyway and just to put the money I would pay for the insurance in a separate…

Gitdog wants a coat. Update with pics.
Never bothered with dog coats before - had a waxed one for my last but she refused to walk with it on so the coat was rehomed. However Gitdog is a sensitive little soul (when it comes to cold, if not for anything else) and is currently doing his best hypothermic pooch impression. And that's before we set foot out of…

Keeping a neighbour's cat away
A few months ago we moved into a new house, we have a cat who for a variety of reasons is an indoor cat. Our neighbours also have a couple of cats who the previous owner of our house we believe used to let into their (our) house. So from time to time the neighbours cat comes and sits on our back step (presumably waiting…

Camrosa Ointment - my findings
Some of you may remember my "scabby mutt" thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5742244 Well, I invested in some camrosa ointment, it was quite expensive for 100g but it works a treat the so-called scabby mutt is clearing up very well! I've been applying it once a day for the last 2 weeks and most areas…

Gravy granules for dogs
Only found out today that there was such a thing but I can't seem to find anyone local to me that sell the product :( I know that Pets at Home and The Range sell Wagg granules but I don't have either store near me, does anyone know if any of the big supermarkets sell them or similar product? (I don't shop in the big 4)
