Financial - Caring for an elderly cat you inherit
I am in a bit of a pickle. My Mum has an elderly cat who has asthma and develops pancreatitis twice a year. My Mum is terminally ill and I will be taking responsibility for the cat upon her death as there is no one else who can do this. He is very sensitive and is a rescue cat who has be previously dumped on the streets…

New Cats - anything I've missed out?
After I had to say goodbye to my beloved companion of 17 years back in November we are now ready to give a home to some new fur babies. Tomorrow I am collecting these two sisters aged between 5 - 6 from a local rescue charity. I have allocated them a room to themselves with a soft warm bed, sofa covered with a big fluffy…

Elderly cats
My two cats are 18-year-old sisters. They are 19 in January. They are still able to jump, climb, groom and occasionally run, although they have stopped hunting. They are free-range, going in and out as they please, although I do shut them in at night. They spend a lot of time sleeping, as is usual for cats that age. They…

Young cats - won't go out/come in
I've had a cat on and off for 30 years, but never had this problem before. We are the proud parents of two young cats (coming up 8 months). They are female, sisters, spayed. One is perfectly happy to go out, but won't use the cat flap to come back in again (we've shown her how it works, this was all our previous cats…

Cat chewing wires
I think I might scream. We have two cats, 17 months old. They're house cats, as we live next to a main road, but had never previously experienced life outside before we got them in October last year. The rescue were happy to rehome them to us. I do everything I can - short of letting them outside - to give them a good…

Hi, Can anyone recommend an electric pet blanket for my elderly cat, or anyone’s views on them ?. I want her to be nice and warm but don’t want the heating on all the time as I get too hot. Or, has anyone used the self heating pads and are they any good?. Has anyone used one on a timer when they are out of the house ?, as…

Neighbours' dog
Me and OH moved in May. Next door neighbour has a shih Tzu. Cute little dog, bit yappy but doesn't bother us. We realised quickly that if the neighbours are there (male, female and 3 sons youngest about 12) the dog is tied up outside. When they go out the dog is indoors. Most days the dog was put outside at around 8am and…

Friends cats have fleas and they're not being treated
I need some advice on how I can politely tell my friend I don't wish to go to their house or they come to mine whilst their flea problem is so out of control. My friends cats have fleas and they told about it a few weeks ago. At this point of telling me 2 of their cats had extensive hair loss due to overgrooming. They…

Dreamies - side effects?
I wonder apart from pleasing the cat, are there any side-effects from cats having Dreamies? For example does it make them hyper-active? Can they have too many in a day? Conversely, are there any side effects as a result of the cat going 'cold turkey'? That is, does 'do more Dreamies' equal any withdrawal symptoms?

Dog walker or doggy day care
Hi, I am due back to work at Easter after my maternity leave and am worried that my dog has gotten so used to me being home with the baby she will find the change and being home alone again stressful. I have looked at getting a dog walker or putting her to a dog day care set up but I didn't realise how many there are - or…

Educational Plea for Help
Hello all, I'm new to the forums and looking for some help! Apologies however if this is not quite the right place. I’m a third year graphic design student about to start work on my final major project. Cat flap installation problem
Hi. We live in a rented property. We have permission to install a cat flap in the back door, but need to replace the door when we leave, maybe in 1- 2 years. I got several quotes and described and/or sent photos of the door. The door is an old wooden door with indented panels at the bottom. The installer arrived and said…

Should I report my neighbours to RSPCA or not?
My DH pointed out to me the conditions our new neighbours appear to be keeping their cats and I am getting increasingly concerned for their welfare. I am on the verge of reporting to the RSPCA, but want to take the time to garner some other viewpoints from here if I may :o Background info: new neighbours moved in a few…

Moving with Fish Tank
We'll be (hopefully) moving house by about 30 miles in the spring and are not sure of the best way to move the fish tank. We previously moved it about 10 years ago (about 2 miles) but they were standard goldfish at the time (since migrated to outside pond) and it's now a tropical tank (heater, etc.). It's a large tank…
