Our short haired cat has gone missing this morning - he shot out of the cat flap when the door bell went - at 8:00 - it is FREEZING out there - we are worried

He may have panicked and hid somewhere safe, go around the neighbourhood calling him, if he responds to treats etc be rattled take them.

It is freezing, he does however have a fur coat. Our cat is currently sitting in her cat run at -9. Cats are very good at finding somewhere warm and shetered.
  • The advice I always hear in this situation is below if missing for more than 12 hours:

    Advice re a lost cat:-
Empty litter tray or hoover contents of your house and also place bedding outside house.
Also poster and leaflet local areas, contact local vets, also contact chip company if chipped,
Also go out late at night or early in morning shaking biscuit box/tin and gently call him / her if scared they will hide and only come out when they feel safe. . Also hang unwashed washing or blanket on the line - cats can pick up your scent from a long way off and ask neighbours to check their sheds, garages in case they have sneaked in and been accidentally locked in.

    Hope he shows up soon!

I wouldn't worry too much, if the cold bothered him he'd have come home pretty sharpish.
He probably had a bit of a pad around in the snow and then found somewhere warm to nap.

Hopefully he has turned up by now or will soon do so. Last year my cat who isn't keen on going out went missing shortly after lunch. At 19.15 that evening he popped back through the cat flap & went straight into the kitchen to see if his dinner was waiting, not even a hello! Never mind that a friend & I had walked around the development where we live calling his name in an effort to find him.

We think it's likely he went into somebody's open garage & got accidentally locked in. He has never gone out alone since, preferring to just sit by the door, so obviously learnt his lesson.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Is it the same cat in this ^^^^ thread or the other cat?

If it's the other cat - did the first one ever come back?

    I'm confused.
It sounds like the 'bully' cat - not the one who went to the vet - was the one who disappeared originally.

We have two unrelated cats - both 14 years old
They used to get on brilliantly
Then, the slightly younger smaller one started to throw his weight around and bully his larger "brother", who just annoyed him by sitting and staring at him !!
The older of the two went to the vets, yesterday for a dental (he had 3 teeth removed under a general anaesthetic - on his return, the bully cat - disappeared out through the cat flap....
He obviously smells different now - the smaller (bully) cat has disappeared - since last night !
It was freezing last night and we are extremely worried
There is a load of fur on the lawn - his colour - so it looks as if he was in a fight !
    Any suggestions ?
So which one has disappeared now?
The slightly younger smaller one (bully) or his larger "brother"?

They are both currently in the warm !!
Neither, now, want to even consider putting their paws on the frozen ground.

Might be worth joining just in case in the future.

Facebook often have local lost and found pets pages.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Unless I'm misunderstanding this thread, you posted that your cat was missing after it'd been outside for only 2 hours. IMO, that's a cat that's gone out, not a cat that's gone missing!
