Are there health care plans for pets?

Hi, next weekend Pebbles, a black and white cat is coming to live with me, thanks to the Cats Protection League. She's had all the necessary things done - wormed, spayed, microchipped, deflead etc - but are there any Health Care Plans available for pets to cover the everyday vets bills?

I'm thinking something similar to Bupa/Healthshield/SimplyHealth.

My local vet offers a plan that's £12/month for cats, but wondered if its possible to 'shop around'.

The only options are Pet Insurance and your Vets plan (which I'm guessing is like the Healthy Pet Club at my CVS vets).

The Vets plan is linked to either the single practice or chain of Vets. It can include things like flea/ worm treatment, vaccinations and micro chipping.

Sometimes they are worth taking out and sometimes they are not. Look for example at the cost of/procedure of Vets Prescription and the flea/worm treatment online to see which comes out cheaper.

I have both Insurance & Vet Plan for budgeting reasons and because Vets plan genuinely saves me about £100 a year (compared to DIY/Vets prescription)

There is an in-between of what Vets Plan covers and insurance excess threshold. That is my financial responsibility and can't be covered elsewhere.

Our vets do a plan which offers worming, flea treatment,vaccination and annual checkup, with a small percentage off consultations.


There are also, for any owners over 60 , free nurse checkups, 6 months after vaccination and 10% off bills (not repeat prescriptions) on two days.
