Bizarre Will problem - all advice appreciated, especially legal
My neighbour was the main beneficiary of her husband's will when he died 10 years ago - But she still hasn't received her inheritance!!! Her husband's brother is the executor, and my neighbour currently receives 250 a month from the estate. The reason for my worry is that she is struggling for money (and she shouldn't be…

Modestly-priced fun for becoming-deaf old bloke with no interests
My Old Gent has been retired a year now. He retired with a MUCH smaller pension than we had always planned for (so many thanks to MSE for so many good ideas and help) and I let him just bumble about the house catching his breath for a year. But now he's bored. Doesn't do any of the following: golf, bridge - or any card…

Change address, is a new will required?
Recently had my will returned by solicitor who has retired and now plan to lodge it with the Probate Office. However as it has my present address on and I hope to move sometime soon do I need to make a new will, make a codicil or is it OK as it is? Tried google but could not find the answer. Probably somebody here has…

Confusion with Tax codes
My mother (77) is in receipt of the State pension. My father died in Feb and she is now paid a portion of his work pension from the Teacher's Pensions. These are her only 2 sources of income. Teacher's Pension originally put her on tax code 647L, but has recently changed it to K52. Neither of us can understand the official…

Nursing home fees after death
An aunt of mine died a month ago in a nursing home :-(. We emptied the room the following day, but have received a bill today for over £1000 for the use of the unoccupied room for two weeks after her death. :( We are appalled - is this usual practice?

£30 to retrieve my will!
I did a will about 8 years ago, kept a copy and the solicitor kept the original. Just received a letter from the solicitor saying she took early retirement, closed the office, and now wants me to pay £30 to get my original document back. Also if I do not pay up within 7 days then I will be charged storage costs in addition…

Buy or rent?
I own a small terraced house, probably worth about £110,000. I am 62, retired because of ill health, and living on the state pension. Would love to go traveling, but need to free money to do this. I could sell, buy an even smaller cheaper flat, (looking at retirement flats). I am aware these incur service charges, which…

Australian banks and interest rates
Hi there Will someone please point out the flaw in my argument as I can't see it really. If I transfer money to Australia, under their system upto £600000 will be guaranteed. So, that is an immediate benefit over British bank accounts and removes the need to split accounts which is a pain. then, they are offering circa 6%…

Dad moved into sheltered accomodation, should he sell his house?
I wonder if anyone can advise my family on what might be best for Dad (aged 82) who has moved into sheltered accommodation 6 months ago? He seems to have settled ok and is quite happy to sell his house and wants the proceeds to be divided amongst sons and daughters. Apparently if he has savings any benefits that he…

A few questions about my parents situation
My father (75) was recently very ill and for a few weeks we did not know if he was going to pull through. 6 weeks after the original infection he has now been moved to rehabilitation at another hospital and will hopefully be home in a month or two. My parents have been married for over 40 years but have always kept…

Pensioners and Income Tax
My mother is 90 years of age and receives a State pension of under £100 per week. She has no other income. She does have a fair bit of savings. I've noticed that some banks/building societies pay more interest on non-ISA accounts. How much interest can she receive without having to pay tax?

Hi everyone I would be grateful if someone here could offer an opinion on a situation I'm having just now. I'm self-employed in a job I love. My partner has a health condition and can't work.
