One year without the use of money?
Could we live with no money for a year? The title is a FREE kindle book I have just finished reading. A bit false I thought. A single man in a hot country who is left a house and land by the sea. No house bills. No gas/electric. No phone or car.. Def. no internet or tv. The only thing for heating and cooking is a wood…

Why has my cake got a dip in the bottom??
I'm wondering if you can assist. I have tested out a new receipe, a ginger cake which I cooked in a loaf tin. On turning it out, it has two dips in the bottom?? One towards each end! I didn't open the oven throughout the baking and it's perfectly fine on top, hasn't sunk or anything. Does anyone know why this might be??…

Soapnuts for laundry
I'm going to give these soapnuts a try, especially now we have soft water so hopefully that will help the effectiveness. Anyone tried these, and if so what was your experience, and which brand do you use?

Buying second hand
So ages ago I learnt to stop buying new if possible and go for second hand recycled. It took me longer than it should to realize that even cheap stuff bought as a bargain is still clutter and money wasted if not actually needed. Now I look at things and ask myself "would I pay full price?" If the answer is no then I dont…

Anyone else grate their scented candles to use in a wax burner, instead of tarts?
I bought a couple of Village Candle, candles the other day, after reading they were just as good if not better than Yankee Candles. However, instead of burning them as a candle I grated them and have been using about half a teaspoon (if that), in my wax/oil burner. I had bought Yankee Candle tarts before but they never…

Cold calling
Is there any truth in the rumour I've heard that when someone calls your landline telephone and there is a pause and clicking the other end before anyone talks to you that they are reversing the cost of the call. I was under the impression that you actually had to agree to a reverse charge phone call so am rather confused.…
