O/S Daily Thursday 19th March 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, clear and dry – at the moment, but very overcast and dull.
Load in WM, and load read to go in TD, I’m not going to bother trying to get it dry on the line, it looks like it could rain at any minute, it’s so dreich and overcast.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up shortly.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken steaks, (no complaints!), new potatoes, salad and cous cous for the menfolk. I made a roasted mediterrean veg tart – which is what I had with salad, new potatoes and cous cous, menfolk had a slice too, so small piece left for my lunch today. Tonight’s dinner I will need to organise later but really needs to be a meat and veg type meal, but I have to go into work for a training session this morning, then I need to do the food shopping as soon as I get back as we’re going away in the morning and I won’t have time to do it tomorrow. I also need to do the washing, drying and ironing, and housework and pack – so a busy day for me again, but busy is good. Mood has been quite even and ok for past few days. But wasn’t too happy just before I left work yesterday, I made a genuine mistake completing a form as part of my job, it’s not a major error at all and the first time I’d had to do it, but I didn’t complete it correctly and my immediate supervisor had already spoken to me individually and I knew what my error was and it was sorted. I then get an email yesterday that’s circulated around the whole of our team (40+ people) with my form scanned as an attachment stating the error that I’d made with my name clearly visible where I’d signed it – I don’t have an issue with being pulled up for a mistake (which I had already been by my supervisor) but is it really necessary to send it round the whole team!? I feel quite publically humiliated and when people had made mistakes before the name is blanked out if circulated round this quite clearly hasn’t happened for me. So I sent the supervisor concerned an email saying how unhappy I am, obviously she’s not going to like it so I have to go in today for training so am expecting to get asked to go to see her or Manager. I just don’t see it’s necessary to single out individuals and then humiliate them in front of the whole team. We’ll see what happens, I’d like to think I’ll get an apology and assurance that it won’t happen to anyone again but maybe I’m hoping for too much!
Got my normal chores done yesterday once I got home, so need to crack on today, will write my shopping list before going in to work for training.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a great day, it was sunny and reasonably mild and I spent the whole day being cheered up, the children at school are so cute when it's your birthday, they say happy birthday everytime they see you! My DBs birthday today, he's a year older than me.
Back to watching what I eat today, yesterday I had a day off and ate a huge fruit slice (with icing) and some chocolates! Chicken salad for lunch but not sure what to do for tea yet.
redruby, well done on the first aid.
dumpling, make sure you phone today!
tired mum, I hope your Mum is ok.
csarina - What a worry with your OH, that's a lot for you to cope with on your own, not easy getting someone up off the floor.
Judi, I think you should have a word in your DDs ear, that's not on.
Butterfly Brain, great news re the physio, just keep up the exercises!
Gers - Ouch!
Got loads of washing dried on the line yesterday, more to do today, it just needs to stay dry till half 3!
Not much else happening, hope you all enjoy Thursday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Looks like it might rain here so work will be a bit quieter, yesterday was heaving, it was such a nice day in the end.
So off to work for me then I have to leave sharpish as DD and I have an eye test, I think my glasses are ok but I am almost certain she will need some new ones. She is very independent and insists on paying for everything herself but I will offer to help her with the costs as they can be expensive.
Something with chips for dinner tonight there are some Kiev's in the freezer or some other bits, OH will put them in the oven when he gets in. He is only working around the corner fitting a new kitchen in my mums new bungalow which is really coming on a treat now, really wont be too long till she can move in.
Right better get on, have good days all.
Topsy hugs to you xx0 -
Morning all - cold and foggy start here. Big decision is do I risk pegging out the washing or just hang over the airers upstairs!
It sounds as if lots of hugs and shoulders to cry on are needed just now. So (((((hugs))))) all round.
I have just braved the scales and definitely need to leap on that diet bandwagon when it passes! Shopping list today contains no goodies and if MrTA tries to slip anything in the trolly he'll get his hands smacked! I'm off to Sainsbobs today as I have just short of £25 worth of Nectar points and want to get them over £25 so I can double them up to £50 (offer starts today) I'm thinking I may do it on electrical goods so I can treat myself to a new microwave. Current one is so slow and is looking very tatty too.
I had a good day out with my friend yesterday. Good old natter, lots of browsing but not much buying. Then a lovely lunch and shared a bottle of wine. Felt very mellow and relaxed - till I got home. There was the hospital appointment waiting for the examination under GA for the 6th May. Worrying already though I know we do need to get to the bottom of what's causing the untreatable uti's.
We have the 3 DGDs to feed and sleep tonight, ready for the traumas of the morning leading up to the school run. Not christened tea yet but I daren't make anything other than their usual 4 favourite things. There would be an uproar if I made anything else. Will ask MrTA which of the 4 he prefers but suspect the answer will be Bolognese pasta bake!
Nmic your humiliation is akin to being put in the stocks or publicly flogged and I am not surprised you feel humiliated. There is absolutely no need for the treatment you got.
Have a good day one and all whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
thanks for listening to me moan yesterday about my daughter. I think the problem lies in between me and her Dad to be honest. He's too sharp and quick to say "no" and I'm too soft. Unfortunately my daughter is like her Dad and steamrollers through life. She says what she thinks and doesn't think about how it affects others. We had issues over Christmas where we were fit into their tight time frame as they were spending Christmas with the fianc!s family and in the pub. I made a bit of a fuss about it but nothing really got settled and I got the feeling they thought I was making a drama out of nothing. Hubby started it by moaning and as I tried to explain to my daughter how we felt it was me that sort of got labelled the drama queen. So now I just don't say anything.... I just moan to myself instead.
I have a very dysfunctional family unfortunately.
Anyway.
Up bright and early this morning, only woke once in the night. I thought I'd pop on here before my Grandson comes. Ive done the usual, put his highchair up, vacuumed the carpets, retrieved the wheelie bin. All the things I try to do before he comes. I met my neighbour who is going to his Mothers funeral today. I have to say he looked very smart.
Could do with posting a letter today but I might walk my Grandson up to the post box. Its not that far and it might tire him out. Either that or I can get his pushchair out and take him for a walk. We'll see.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning everyone. Beautiful morning though firecast is for rain in the afternoon.
My poorly bit is still sore though only to the touch and not to moving arms around generally. Anti-bs starting to work well.
Today I have to spend doing housework and cooking. Two friends arriving for the weekend tomorrow. I have to collect them at 10.30am in Glasgow and that'll be at least a 2.5 hour drive down. So, today is the day for breaking out the duster. I'll do upstairs before going down for breakfast. Spare room just needs airing and dusting so it's not a lot to do.
Want to get a walk in this morning, so need to crack on.
Hope everyone has a good day, especially nmlc. Such a rotten thing to do to you so I would expect a circulated apology too.0 -
Good Morning All,
I hope everyone is well and are coping with whatever life throws at us.
I went out shopping yesterday for some crafty bits and a trip into asda.
This results in me having a really long list to try and get through today.
have a warm, safe and happy day everyone,
Regards:j0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I phoned my CPN yesterday and she is coming to see me at 9am this morning. I do feel like I've made a fuss but I don't feel too well and need some support.
In other news, the roof is finished and they came and took the scaffolding down so we have sky again yay! I really enjoyed watching the tv last night, even the adverts
. Four weeks without the tv has been quite hard. I'm used to having it chattering away in the background while I knit or whatever so I haven't even picked up my needles for a while.
I've taken some mince out to make a savoury mince dish tonight and I am going to make a chicken and vegetable soup for lunch. I really can't tolerate salad as it goes straight through me but I still want to up my veg intake. I will be looking up some vegetarian recipes later than I can cook for my lunches as I am trying to cut back on bread and pasta.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Hi everyone,
It's been a busy week so far. DD was here on Monday so we went to MK, we had a make up session at Bobbi brown booked. It was good because I want to look my best for the wedding. DD bought me a couple of the products for my birthday (St Paddy's day). We also got some ready meals for her using our M & S discount because she can't stand for too long with her neck problem at the moment.
Tuesday, DH and I went to Hughenden Manor and then had a lovely meal to celebrate my birthday, I was very spoiled. Yesterday DH had a meeting at Donnington so I went with hem to go to Loughbrough and trawl round the excellent charity shops. I managed to get quite a few doilies for the wedding.
Today I'm off to London as DD is reviewing afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental so she asked me to go along. I shall see how it compares to Claridges, which she took me to last year.
I feel thoroughly spoiled this week and it isn't finished yet because we are going to Oxford for the weekend and will be meeting an old school friend I haven't seen for about 30 years and then I will be going to a lecture by one of my favourite authors, Diana Gabaldon.
But - this morning I will bring myself back down to earth by doing some housework!
Dumpling, I hope you feel a bit better after your visitor.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning, (((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
I did not pick OH up off the floor, I am not phisically able to, He managed to get upstairs to bed after a few minutes, I did have to undress him though!!
Dull and grey, off to take DD2 to the Drs. They would not come out to her yesterday, she was vomiting and they wanted her to get a taxi and go in to the surgery, then moaned because she cancelled the appointment!!
Update: just back Dr has told her she has a chest infection, and she is physically exhausted. She has to phone and make another appointment on Monday and he will sign her off for another week. I told her to make sure she does phone, she needs to be really better before she goes back.0
