O/S Daily Wednesday 18th March 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

    Now light, and misty.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will get DS2 up shortly.

Dinner last night was pasta in a creamy tomato sauce with smoked sausages and mushrooms, DH said there wasn’t enough meat in it so I threw some chicken dippers into the oven as extras for the menfolk – no wonder my food shopping costs so much! Tonight I’m thinking breaded chicken steaks (if DH complains about chicken again, will be reminding him that he wasn’t having chicken last night but he moaned at last minute not enough meat) I’m going to make a roasted med veg tart also, (I’ll just have that – menfolk can have a small piece each, I’ll serve it with hot new potatoes salad and cous cous.

Only working until lunchtime today – will then come home and crack on with the usual chores – I realised when we got home on Sunday that I’d left some fresh tomatoes, new potatoes and some grapes in a cupboard in the caravan so I need to call in on the way home from work and collect them – I’ve run out of tomatoes at home so I’m hoping they’ll still be usable, they should be as the caravan will be like a chiller whilst it’s not in use with no heating on.

Work is now becoming busier, and the bills were sent out on Monday so will start hitting the mats over the coming days – we’re thinking they’ll start arriving today and tomorrow – and the end of the week is when our staffing levels are at the lowest – so staff that are working will be swamped – great timing by the management!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning Everyone

Light and dry here, apparently it's going to be a good day with sunshine!
Some washing already done, another load on, will hang it out before I leave.

TA - Sorry to hear of your SILs Mum. Hope the new medication works.
dumpling - Of course you are worth it, just give them a ring to see what's happening. Please don't ever feel like you aren't worth bothering about, your family and friends care and we all care. There, that's you told!
Gosh tru, what a lot of damage for a smallish bump.
marrowfat peas - I bet you are relieved your DS ony has a sore shoulder!
Gers, your poor friend, I hope he can be comfortable.
    Big hugs to you topsy.

Need to take some tiles back today, the nice man in the shop lent us some so we could see them in the bathrooms, they have a stocktake tomorrow so need to have everything back in the store.

Friend coming for tea, we are having fajitas, I made the insides yesterday so just need to put them together later. Apart from that not much happening. Hope you all enjoy Wednesday. Take care. XX
  • Good morning,

Thank you nmic for starting todays thread.

Extremely foggy here this morning but I expect it will clear later

Topsy hugs to you, and I am so sorry for your loss.

Dumpling you are worth it never think otherwise.

Off out to lunch today, DD was going to take us on Monday but she wasn't well, so today is the day. Only going to a carvery but it is always a lovely meal, and of course it means I don't have to cook tonight.

Just a bit of hoovering to do and must pop to SM. We bought different cat litter last week, have just started it and it is like concrete, and my girl Flora doesn't like it at all :). You can see who rules the roost in this house.

Have a good day whatever you are doing.

Gers, not long now, can we have a virtual Retirement Party please?

Morning all. It's a lovely morning here but, by heck, it's cold! There's a thick frost everywhere. I was laid in bed at 5.30 this morning, wide awake as usual, listening to an amazing Dawn Chorus outside. The cold doesn't put the birdies off getting up early these lighter mornings! Not as many birds at the feeders now it's approaching nest building time but the blooming starlings are still demolishing the fat balls as fast as I refill the feeder. Oh they are such greedy birds.

I'm having a day off today and leaving MrTA to his own devices! I'm off for a day out with a friend for a bit of shopping, a bit of browsing and, of course, lunch! It's forecast to be a bit warmer with sunny spells so promises to be a nice day out. I've left a cottage pie defrosting for MrTA to warm up for his lunch and, as a treat for him (though it turns my stomach to even think about!!) a dish of mushy peas to have with it. Plus a jug of gravy of course.

If there is any room left on the diet bandwagon I'd like to jump on tomorrow. I've done too much comfort eating this winter, trying to cheer myself up when feeling down coping with both our health problems. I am avoiding the scales but can tell by the fit of my clothes that the weight has shot up. It's not long ago that I used to be a 10, then crept up to a 12, then a 14. I refuse to start buying 16's! I'm only diddy (5ft 1 and a half!) so soon look like a kelly.

My sympathy Topsy to you and your mum. How are you today Dumpling, please don't feel worthless because you are far from it. You have a family that love you very much. I know what you mean about the loudest squeak getting listened to. I have a SIL like that and, believe me, no-one can walk all over her or they soon get short shrift!

I hope the young reckless drivers belonging to some of you have learned their lesson. They have been lucky this time. I know how I used to worry when my DS passed his test. He is almost 40 now so those days are long gone!

Take care one and all and have a good day whatever you are up to xx

marrowfat peas Hello  I'm glad your son's OK x

I was surprised too at the amount of damage on the van. Just as well the headlight kept failing, if it hadn't then he wouldn't have gone to a garage and found out about loose/broken brackets and the radiator might've fallen out while he was driving along  :D It's been made temporarily safe until the insurance pays out. Assessor says probably write-off (it's borderline, the cost of repair has to exceed the value of the van by 68%) but said it all has to go through proper channels so wait until he has a letter confirming it.

There were lots of flashing blue lights not far from us last night, found out this morning that someone was hit by a train and has died :( Just horrible. There was a police helicopter too, didn't realise they'd use one for something like this?

I did a large online shop yesterday, the cupboards will be filled to the brim by lunchtime today. I'm hoping to buy nothing but fresh things for a couple of weeks. Although I have to pay £3 delivery, it's still working out a lot cheaper than going to the shop. Mr tru likes to wander round the whole shop in case he sees something he wants but didn't think of writing it on the list at home. When I did the first online shop a few weeks ago, I asked him if there was anything in particular he wanted and he couldn't think of anything, but insisted on browsing the whole site just in case. I saved my list and left him to it, telling him to write things down and I'll add them later. He hasn't done that since, he finds it a hassle. He doesn't get involved now :D

It's very misty here at the moment, not sure if it's going to clear up later. I'll clean out the chicken shed and make their beds :D We have some onions to plant, mr tru is off on friday so we'll get stuck in then, in the meantime I'm going to mark out planting areas. I'd already planned the veg patch but we've decided on more onions and garlic, and fewer broad beans (had far too many last year! still have 30 plants to go in though). I have two cushion covers to finishing making, I'll do that this afternoon.

    Good morning everyone.

By, it's chilly though extremely bright. But like me just now!

Camelot's birthday and she didn't mention it? Happy Birthday. Hope you lots of cake.

This morning I've got a docs appointment and then a lunch time meeting which is more of a social event. Got a little ad of minced beef to cook up, think I'll do a chilli this time.

I want to set the fire before I go out, I've mastered the art of a slow burn so it should stay alive whilst I'm out. TA has reminded me to put up the new nest boxes which have been lingering in the steading since Christmas so need to buy some nails. I've got a great one in the shape of the TARDIS as well as the normal brown huts!

The last of my ceramic poppies have been delivered at last, though I had to hunt for them in the farmers barn. Y**** told me on the phone that they had left them in my 'coal shed' and put a card through my door. There's neither a coal shed nor has my door got a letterbox - there is a steading and an unused galvinized bin which the postie uses.

Anyway, got them which is the main thing.

Right, have to get all ready. I hope everyone has a great day.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Happy Birthday Camelot, hope you have a lovely day xx

Just waved the girls off to school, usual rush round finishing off homework and looking for cooking ingredients. Now I'm sat in peace with a cup of tea and it's lovely :) DD15 went off to school quite happily this morning as well which was good.

I'm going to make myself a cooked breakfast later on as I am really fancying one. Need to get some chicken out to defrost for tea as well, I'm not quite sure what to make yet, something simple as my brain is a bit addled.

Our new tumbledryer got delivered yesterday and it is so much faster than our old one. It should save a fortune on the electric as clothes are drying in half the time. I'm going to be spending the next couple of days catching up on the washing.

Well my CPN didn't turn up again so I will have to ring them to find out what is going on. I hate being a nuisance but I could really do with some support at the moment. Hubby is doing his best but he only has half the picture as I don't want him to feel stressed.

Haven't heard from my eldest DD for a couple of days as she has been busy working and seeing her new fella. It is all going well and although I obviously have my concerns, she is happy. It's her 28th birthday tomorrow so I know she will be round for her cards and presents. I can't believe where the years have gone, it really seems like yesterday I was cuddling her in my arms.

Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
