Is it possible to make shoulder area bigger in a football shirt

Hi
I'm not great at needlework but I need to alter a football shirts shoulders as they are too small for my son and its a part of his sports kit. I can't buy a replacement as it been stickered with the sponsor. It was ordered in the summer and his shoulders have really filled out. Would be very greatful for any hints and tips. Thanks in advance.

Is the shirt part of a school PE kit or a Sunday league football team kit?

If it is a Sunday league football team kit they are likely to have bigger sizes available and all you would need to do is return the smaller shirt to them and ask for a bigger size.

If it is part of a school PE kit then sorry I can't help as I don't do needlework at all.

Would one of the other boys who are swimming in their shirt be willing to swap? Perhaps even from another age group?

The seams on football shirts are so narrow that there isn't really any extra material for you to be able to let the seam out.

Asked everyone springdreams as they are on the small side this year everyone's kinda in a similar boat. You are right about the seams. Was thinking of some way of putting a panel in ? thanks

Ok you say shoulders but in what way? Hes too broad for it, or the armholes are too tight, or both?

Actually easiest way would be to get a plain top in same colour, thst does fit. Then just cut out logo n sew on new shirt

    Too much faffing around otherwise

    Hiya, thanks.
Logos won't peel off and are not material that sows. More like iron on transfers. Shirts are £50 and he needs a few  But it's not an option due to logos xx
    Thanks again for reply.

Cut around the logo as a whole and then use something like steam-a-seam to stick it to a new top. Ie you are cutting up the current shirt to make an iron-on badge for a new shirt

Will look better and is way easier than adding in panels

Adding panels to the side seams wont increase width across the shoulders. You could add a panel down centre back, but then youd have to rework the neck binding too and finding a matching fabric so you dont create a stripe wld be difficult. Also its a football top, so 100% polyester. Not exactly the easiest thing for a novice seamstress to sew.

Personally id be getting onto the team to pay for replacements. They obviously messed yo with sizing, if everyones is too small
