I need help!
Hi everyone This is my first post on here, I've been lurking for the past week reading and have to say you all impress me so much. You all seem so organised, with housework and meal planning. I on the other hand am the opposite. I work full time, live with my husband and son. I try hard to keep on top of things but I'm…

Using moulds for chocolate decorations
During the summer I picked up a little bag of small metal moulds at a charity shop for 25p. They are nice little christmas moulds, stockings and baubles ... that sort of thing. Thought they'd come in useful in my rapidly developing OS kitchen :D I'm assuming they are for chocolate making? Does anyone have any idea as to…

OS Friday 23rd March 2007
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 23 March. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please…

Lakeland antibacterial cloths.
Hi Guys, I've been 'wanting' these for a wee while now, but as they don't come cheap a bit unsure as to whether I should get them. My dishcloths are all more holey than godly now (IYKWIM) and I should replace them. I'm a bit 'sad' in the respect that I like my dishcloths to retain their shape after washing so that they can…

Homemade bread
Have bought a 125g packet of Doves Quick Yeast. Am not sure what the difference is between different types of yeast... It's dried, and in a packet. That's all I can gather! Any tried and tested handmade bread recipes I can play with?:) Suggestions appreciated. :)

Laundry help!
Help please! I've bought borax and bicarb this week and see that people say both are good to use in laundry alongside powder. BUT - I usually use soda crystals - so do I put all in or just one - and if so which one's best for what? Also do I use vinegar alongside (I don't want to blow machine up)?

First ever shop
Ok maybe not my first ever shop but my first shop in my new house. I'm wanting to start as I mean to go on, at the minute I have the odd cleaning product which I brought with me when I was cleaning the new house. So basically what should I buy as I'd like to start as I mean to go on. I have teabags, coffee, sugar, soup,…

help to rescue my cream carpet?
Hello again :waves: :D I know I know.. like a bus aren't I. I have a dilemma. We've lived in our house for a year and 3-4 months and when we moved in our wiser wisdom bought a lovely cream carpet to go with our 'earthy' colour scheme. Who were we kidding? A year on and our carpet is a right state and no amount of cleaning…

Monthly meal-plan and shopping
Do you have any tips for me? I try and do 'cook once eat twice' and meal planning, but still find I'm spending more than I'd like and end up going to the supermarket for lunch. I often find myself falling off the wagon at the end of the week and just having soup/chips/baked potatoes. I enjoy cooking but don't want to spend…

Any "No-Cook" recipes for Guides/Brownies?
Hi there all you great Old Stylers! I used to run a Guide Company, and now the young Guider who took over from me, has come back with a problem. The Church hall where they meet has no kitchen. When I ran Guides, everytime we wanted to cook they came to my house, but as she lives with mum, this isn't convenient! Soooo has…

Enchilidas
I very cleverly decided to make these myself as it is cheaper than the Old El Paso packets you can but as I had half a spice packet left over from the last Old Paso I bought. I have the puree, tortillas, chicken, cheese etc. but as I have thrown the original box away, I don't know the quantities of anything. Or how hot to…

Lightly cooked eggs......
I know this is a silly question but what exactly does 'lightly cooked eggs' mean? In the hope of starting a family :) I need to be careful about what I eat but I love eggs - and we have chickens which doesn't help! :D I'm guessing boiled eggs and soldiers are out. But what about poached eggs or scrambled? Does it just mean…
